January 9, 2020 - Walter Bounds who has Bounds AV did a video of the downtown square giving everyone a birds-eye view of the progress of the construction as of January 8, 2020.

The video is labeled "Every Beautiful City Deserves a Beautiful Heart."

January 9, 2020 - Brisa Guevara of Center was recognized among the students named to the Dean's List in the College of Letters and Science at the University of Wisconsin-Madison for the fall semester of the 2019-2020 academic year.

Students who achieve at a high level academically are recognized by the dean at the close of each semester. To be eligible for the Dean's List, students must complete a minimum of 12 graded degree credits in that semester. Each university school or college sets its own GPA requirements for students to be eligible to receive the distinction.

Guevara was the Class of 2019 salutatorian and is the daughter of Cristina Olalde and Jose Guevara. She is pursuing a major in foreign language (Japanese/Spanish) to pursue a career as an interpreter/translator.

January 7, 2020 - The entire Blue Santa team would like to thank you for your generous donation to the Blue Santa program.

With your donation and others like yours, we were able to provide Christmas to approximately 285 children (120 families). That is 285 smiles put on little children’s faces. Again thank you, we could not do it without you! You truly helped Blue Santa make a Child's Christmas blessed this year.

January 2, 2020 - McNeese State University awarded 628 diplomas to 618 students at the university’s fall commencement ceremony Saturday, December 14, as commencement exercises returned to an on-campus venue for the first time in 33 years in the new Health and Human Performance Education Complex.

Of the Fall 2019 Texas graduates, James Thomas Hovey of Joaquin, Texas earned a Bachelor of Science in General Business Administration.

December 31, 2019 - Praise 2019 was a huge success! On December 14, 2019, Shelby County Outreach Ministries, Inc. had their end of the year fundraiser, which had live singing, food and refreshments, live and silent auctions, and door prizes. All proceeds made that night went to the Senior Nutrition Site programs that provide meals to seniors 60 and older and deliver meals to homebound seniors in the community.

Praise 2019 would not have been possible without those who made contributions. December 30, 2019 - Noble Children’s Services would like to thank our sponsors, schools and community members who participated in the angel tree, the raffle at the poultry festival and those who donated their time. Through your generous donations and participation we were able to help provide each child with Christmas gifts, a magical visit from Santa and a wonderful Christmas party surrounded by people who love and support them. We couldn’t do this without the love and support from our community.

December 27, 2019 - Farmers State Bank welcomed customers and the community to their open house which was held Tuesday, December 17th. Everyone enjoyed gifts of pot holders, calendars, letter openers, card holders, along with punch and cookies.

December 26, 2019 - The Center Police Department and Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center want to thank everyone that came and donated blood during our Christmas Eve Blood Drive.

We had a great and wonderful turn out! 35 people showed up to donate with only 3 deferrals. With double donors and Plasma, we received 38 units of blood. That is a big number to reach during drives and will be a huge impact to those in need.

Thank you to everyone that took the time to come out and show your support and help save lives.

December 23, 2019 - Santa's Christmas Parade winners were presented checks by the Award's Sponsor - the City of Center on Monday, December 23, 2019 by Mayor David Chadwick.

"I really want to thank y'all very much for participating in our annual parade," City of Center Mayor David Chadwick expressed.

He understood it would have been an easy year with the construction downtown for participates to have skipped it this year which made it all the more special that the parade was a success with crowds filling up the new route areas. "Your attitude was Christmas and you did the whole nine yards with it. So, thank you very much for your participation in [the parade]."

He also gave some 'flash news' to the winners, "Next years parade is going to be on December 5th, put it on your calendars already... and the theme next year will be 'Christmas Then and Now.' This is the Chambers announcement of the theme for next year and since y'all are such avid supporters, you deserve the first shot at it. So, congratulations and we look forward to seeing each of you participating next year in an even grander way than it was this year. Thank you very much and Have a Merry Christmas!"
