June 17, 2019 - Timpson Frontier Days Pony Express is hoofin' it from town to town spreading the word of the upcoming Timpson festivities in July.
Marilyn Corder, Timpson Area Chamber of Commerce, is the envoy traveling with Pony Express riders Danny Dixon on "Pepper," Rose Dixon and Sarah Dixon on "Gypsy."
So far the Frontier Days ambassadors have visited Mt. Enterprise, Garrison, Joaquin and Center on June 17, 2019 to invite residents in those areas to attend.
Timpson Frontier Days will take place July 4th through July 7th with rides, food, entertainment and a parade.

June 17, 2019 Huntsville - Sam Houston State University would like to recognize William Cummings from Tenaha and Alexus Ceasar-Walker of Center for earning the honor of being named to the Dean's List for the Spring 2019 semester.
The students listed on the Dean's List of Academic Honors at Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas, are undergraduates who have achieved a grade point average of at least 3.5 out of a perfect 4.0 in all work attempted while enrolled in not less than 12 semester hours.
Cummings is a 2016 Graduate of Tenaha High School and has previously been named on the Dean's List (Fall 2017, Spring 2018, Fall 2018) and the President's Honor Roll (Fall 2017) while attending Sam Houston State University.
Ceasar-Walker is a 2018 Graduate of Nacogdoches High School and is currently from Center.
June 17, 2019 - In celebration of Hunger Awareness Month, Shelby County Outreach Ministries will have a Canned Food Drive from June 10th thru June 14th. Donations may be dropped off at Shelby County Outreach Ministries between 9-2 M-F.
Statistics say that 21.3% of people in Shelby County live in a food insecure home. This means that we have people in our community that are hungry and not sure where their next meal will come from.
On June 21st and 22nd donations can be made at Brookshire Brothers and Wal-Mart. Help us “Stomp Out Hunger” by donating canned foods, non-perishable food items, or monetary donations! Together, we can make a difference in the lives of those less fortunate.
Come by the tables and donated any canned goods or non-perishable items for Hunger Awareness Week! Every canned item will help "Stomp Out Hunger" here in Shelby County! Thank you for your support and God Bless!

In memory of Kenneth Folsom a $100 gift card donated by the Shelby County Bass Anglers was given to Braxton Amy for overall largest single bream of the tournament weighing .62 pounds.
Also, in memory of Kenneth Folsom a $50 gift card donated by the Shelby County Bass Anglers was given to Braxton Amy for overall heaviest stringer of the tournament at 2.63 pounds.
June 14, 2019 - The month of June is filled with reunions whether they are family or school alumni or organizations. So, it is the same for Daniels School Alumni Reunion. Every two years many of the past students of C H Daniels High and Elementary come together to 'Keep the Legacy Alive'. This year the committee is celebrating 50 years since the school closed with the last graduating class of 1968. Since the class of 1969 had spent 11 years there, they will be honored as well. Certificates will be given. Other classes will be recognized as always. The events will begin on Friday, July 5 and culminate on Saturday with a banquet in Windham Civic Center beginning at 5 pm. June 14, 2019 - In the United States, flag day is celebrated on June 14. It commemorates the adoption of the flag of the United States, which happened on June 14, 1777.
The United States Army also celebrates their 244th birthday today having been established June 14, 1775.
In 1916, president Woodrow Wilson issued a proclamation that officially established June 14 as flag day. In August 1946, national Flag Day was established by an act of congress but is not an official federal holiday.
Today as we have in past years, new flags will be hoisted by Post Commander Gene Hutto.
The group then recited the Pledge of Allegiance to our newly rasied United States Flag.

June 14, 2019 - Mr. R. G. (Monk) Peace was presented a plaque by Shelby Soil & Water Conservation District honoring him for 16 years of outstanding and dedicated service as a member of the Board of Directors representing Zone 3. Mr. Peace’s grandson, J. B. Raymond, has been appointed to complete the remainder of his term. Pictured with Mr. Peace are family members, from left, J. B. June 13, 2019 - Mangum and Taylor Funeral Homes are honored to serve families during their time of need and also take great pride in supporting the community and its residents throughout the year.
For the second year in a row, Mangum and Taylor Funeral Homes have presented one senior from each high school in Shelby County with a $500 scholarship. The staff would like to wish each recipient the best as they pursue future endeavors.
