Be Not conformed to This World by George Parsley

June 2, 2016 - Paul writes, “And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God” (Rm. 12:2). Peter also echoes these words, “As obedient children, not fashioning yourselves according to the former lusts in your ignorance: 15 But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation;” (1 Pet. 1:14-15).

These are great, wise and important words, but how do we do it? David gives us a great explanation and example of how not be conformed to this world so that our behavior will be holy. “For thy loving kindness is before mine eyes: and I have walked in thy truth. 4 I have not sat with vain persons, neither will I go in with dissemblers. 5 I have hated the congregation of evil doers; and will not sit with the wicked. 6 I will wash mine hands in innocency: so will I compass thine altar, O LORD: 7 That I may publish with the voice of thanksgiving, and tell of all thy wondrous works” (Ps. 26:3-7).

It is a very simple “formula”. Simply, have God before our eyes and do not keep company with those that are conformed with the world. In other words, keep a respectful distance with those walking in sin while at the same time telling them about the greatness of God along with a devoted life of service, worship and study.

David also writes, “I will behave myself wisely in a perfect way. O when wilt thou come unto me? I will walk within my house with a perfect heart. 3 I will set no wicked thing before mine eyes: I hate the work of them that turn aside; it shall not cleave to me” (Ps. 101:2-3). If we take the wisdom and example of David we will indeed be on track to not be conformed to this world. Simply put, do not set the world in front us.
