January 28, 2016 - After WWII the city was energized and by late 1948 it seemed to be time for a big forward step, a gymnasium for Center High School. The School board debated about options including remodeling the old “Exhibit Hall” on the fairgrounds, originally an air-craft hanger, but in the end, constructing an all new gym won. Proponents thought it would cost in the range of $25,000 and in the end, the cost estimate was doubled. I bet it helped that Center had some outstanding high school athletes at the time. A picture of the 1951 basketball team is included on the video. This important gym has been remodeled a couple of times and looks really good after the recent facelift. This campus is now used as a “Middle” school, for 6th, 7th and 8th grades.
