Keep the Legacy Alive: Remembering Its Namesake

May 30, 2018 - This Legacy series of Daniels School could not be complete without mention of the man for whom this school is named, Chatman H. Daniels.

He was the principal of the school (first known date in 1926) until his death in 1950. He taught in Hemphill, TX before coming to Center. He earned both Bachelor and Master Degrees from Prairie View College and taught many places during summers and conducted the PV Extension School for 3 years. He had a noted record for encouraging more students to take college training than any others in his time. This encouragement was given to his daughters as well, since they went on to college to receive degrees and become teachers.

Long live the memories of Professor Chatman JH. Daniels. A quote from Dr. Charles Tatum book, “Dew Drops on the Pine Needles” says – Mr. C. H. Daniels will always be remembered as a man of high integrity and great determination – a scholar, master teacher, competent administrator, a devoted husband, a loyal friend and a Christian gentleman.
