Keeping the Legacy Alive for Daniels High School

May 1, 2018 - The beginning of May brings back the memory of the closing of the Daniels School on Greer Street in Center, Texas some 50 years ago. The last graduating class 1968 was excited about graduation and the future that time holds for the classmates. Many students had finished before the class and were away or still in Center, Shelby County or surrounding areas. These students had a great love for the school where they were educated and some of them met and married their spouses. I imagine the feelings were mixed about the closing.

As we remember this, we must also pay recognition to those who have passed on since 1968 and before then. Many were fallen ‘Bobcats’ (Daniels mascot) in their younger years and most in their elderly years. Most of the teachers are gone as well. It was just a few months ago when Mrs. D Sampson passed. She was the teacher of mathematics and other subjects that many of the students enjoyed and it was shown by the communication with her during the 50 years after the school closed. Mr. Perry Sampson, last principal of the school, was her husband and he preceded her in death.
