Mansfield State Historic Site to Host Civil War Trust's Park Day

March 7, 2016 - Mansfield State Historic Site, in conjunction with the Civil War Preservation Trust, will host its annual Park Day on March 19, from 11:00 a.m.-2 p.m. Since 1996, the Civil War Trust has sponsored Park Day, an annual hands-on preservation event to help Civil War battlefields and historic sites take on maintenance projects, large and small.

Mansfield State Historic Site is looking for volunteers who are willing to help in some or all of the following activities: Cleaning interpretive trail signage, washing of artillery carriages, light trail maintenance/clearing. All of these projects will improve the scenic and interpretive offerings of “YOUR” Civil War Battlefield! In appreciation, participants will receive a commemorative tee-shirt (while supplies last). Because all work will be done outdoors, it is recommended that volunteers bring work gloves and wear weather appropriate clothing, comfortable (but closed toe) shoes, and sunscreen. The event will be cancelled in the event of inclement weather.

Mansfield State Historic Site is located on State Highway 175, three miles south of Mansfield. Admission is FREE for all volunteers, otherwise admission is $4.00 per person; children 12 and under and seniors 62 and over are admitted free.  For more information, call 318.872.1474 or 888.677.6267, or visit www.LaStateParks.com.
