Poultry Festival to Host Quilt, Can-a-Rams and Honey Shows

August 31, 2015 - The 39th East Texas Poultry Festival will be featuring local Creative Arts through the annual Quilt Show and new this year, a Can-A-Rama and Honey Show featuring canned goods and locally produced honey.

Here is your opportunity to showcase your grandmother’s heirloom quilt or your own handiwork in quilting, canning, and honey production. Creative Arts will be on display at both the Historic Courthouse and First Ladies of Texas building on October 1, 2 & 3 from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. daily.

Quilt categories are as follows: Hand pieced & hand quilted, hand appliqued & hand quilted, machine pieced & hand quilted, machine appliqued & machine quilted, hand pieced wall hangings, machine pieced wall hangings, heirloom. Quilts may not have been previously entered in any East Texas Poultry Festival Quilt Show.

Canning and honey categories are as follows: A. Vegetables, B. Fruits, C. Jams, Jellies & Preserves, D. Pickles & Relishes, E. Salsa, F. Meats, Poultry & Seafood, G. Honey. Canned goods will be judged based upon appearance, head space, and canning technique. No food will be tasted. Both youth and adult divisions will be featured. Ribbons will be awarded top three places in each category along with a sweepstakes rosette for top point winner in both divisions.

Jheri-Lynn McSwain, Creative Arts Show Chairman, says, “If you would like to enter a quilt for judging or exhibition or a canned food or honey, you can pick up your registration packet and guidelines at either the Chamber office, the County Extension office or www.shelbycountychamber.com.
