September 8, 2015 - The C.H. Daniels School Reunion was held on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, September 4th, 5th, 6th, 2015, in Center, TX at the Windham Center Civic Center. The Friday event was a meet and greet gathering at the Hampton Inn meeting room where games and conversations were held. Refreshments were served to everyone’s delight while childhood and high school pictures were viewed from a photo collection of a classmate.
Saturday morning's parade was a hit for the few brave walkers and several riders, all dressed in their reunion t-shirts. The route was from MLK/Shelbyville Hwy to Perry Sampson Park. Many pictures were taken along the route and at the destination. More conversation, music and food were waiting for the classmates at the park.
There was approximately one hundred in attendance at the banquet on Saturday night. A procession of the 2013 king and queen followed by the Golden Class 2015 (1965 graduates) opened the program. The new king and queen were presented and crowned: Mr. MJ Mitchell and Mrs. Edwina Mitchell who were teachers at Daniels in the 60’s.
Acknowledgement of former teachers and principals was presented with audience participation by reading a statement about the teacher posted on the table. Other teachers were mentioned at that time as well. Each classmate of 1965 in attendance was presented a certificate recognizing their 50 years since graduation. So were the classmates of 1964. A moment of prayer was submitted for the fallen alumni. Door prizes were given and the food was good. The “Dear Daniels High” school song closed the program.
Everyone enjoyed the dancing to DJ music afterwards. Accolades to Sandra Latham and others for decoration of tables, centerpieces, and the stage. The colorful souvenir program was something new. Thanks to those who purchased ads. The reunion committee of five was recognized for their hard work and they extended invitations for others to join and start planning for the next reunion (2017) where the classes of 1966 and 1967 will be honored. This year’s committee of five consisted of Joyce Johnson, Sandra Latham, Joan Garrett, Shirley Hewitt, Juanita Williams-McClelland, and Imogean Williams. Thanks goes out to others who made it a successful reunion.
