Shelby County Hosts Over 200 Youth in 4-H District 5 Food Challenge

February 28, 2024 (Photo Album) - Shelby County was host to the 4-H District 5 Food Challenge on Friday, February 16, 2024 at the John D. Windham Civic Center. The Food Challenge was sponsored by Shelby Savings Bank and the Harrison County FCS Committee.

Sixty-three teams with 220 youth participated in the District 5 Food Challenge competing in three age divisions: Junior, Intermediate, and Senior. Each division competed in four categories: Appetizer, Main Dish, Side Dish, and Healthy Dessert.

The results were as follows:

Junior Division

2nd place - The Whisk-Takers from Shelby County
3rd place - Cooking Kittens from Angelina County

Main Dish Category
1st place - Nailed It from Angelina County
2nd place - Chopped and Stewed from Panola County
3rd place - Cooking Queens from Wood County

Side Dish Category
1st place - Hunger Busters from Nacogdoches County
2nd place - Triple A Threat from Harrison County
3rd place - Cook Team from Henderson County

Healthy Dessert Category
1st place - Nice Spice from Rusk County
2nd place - United Steaks of America from Cherokee County
3rd place - Spicy Cheetahs from Gregg County

Intermediate Division

Appetizer Category
1st place - Tasteful Table from Harrison County
2nd place - Kitchen Warriors from Angelina County
3rd place - Cooking Queens from Cherokee County

Main Dish Category

2nd place - Slicin Dixon Chefs from Gregg County
