Spirit of 45 Celebration in Nacogdoches

August 3, 2017 - Plans are in full swing for Cason Monk-Metcalf’s annual Spirit of 45 celebration, commemorating the 72nd anniversary of the end of World War II, according to Constance Engelking, coordinator for the event.

This free, public program will be held Sunday, Aug. 13, 2017, at Cason Monk-Metcalf Funeral Directors, located at 5400 North St. in Nacogdoches.

The local American Legion will have their legendary food truck set up in front of the funeral home all day. Their food sales will begin at 10:00 a.m. All World War II veterans and home front heroes will get a coupon from Cason Monk-Metcalf for a free item.

With weather permitting, a vintage aircraft flyover is set for 3:30 p.m. to get the afternoon’s festivities kicked off. There will then be a “USO type” program with many special guests and presentations.

First Lt. Maiko Badders, serving with the U.S. Army, will be a special keynote speaker for the event. Also participating will be members of the Civil Air Patrol, Patriot Guard Riders, Boy Scouts Troop #101, Heart of the Pines Chorus. There will be a special performance by “Andy & Mitzi,” a local ballroom dance duet.

And, of course, guests will be treated to Cason Monk-Metcalf’s traditional root beer floats, lemonade, and teacakes.

Everyone is invited to come out to Cason Monk-Metcalf for this Spirit of 45 celebration. Bring your family and friends for fellowship, food, and fun.
