Shelby County Sheriff’s Office Warning Area Residents of Phone Scam

March 6, 2019 - A scammer has been calling Shelby County residents and telling them they’re going to be arrested for missing jury duty.

The only way to keep from being arrested, according to the scammer, is to purchase gift cards and give the caller the gift card information over the phone.

The caller states he is Lieutenant Del Birdwell of the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office.

The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office will NEVER call to warn an individual of an arrest warrant.

Sheriff's Office Seeking Information About Theft of Two ATVs

February 26, 2019 - The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office is seeking information regarding the theft of two ATVs. The incident occurred January 28, 2019, at approximately 10:30 p.m. at a location on County Road 1060 in Center.

Game camera footage captured two suspects, a white male and white female, enter the property and push a green Arctic Cat ATV and a red/blue Polaris Trailboss ATV off the lease.

Sheriff Reports on Phone Scam in the Area

December 31, 2018 - The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office has had several reports of a phone scam that started Saturday, December 29, 2018 and is still continuing. The scam reports that the caller states he is Detective Brooks of the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office. The caller is telling individuals that they have a warrant for their arrest and is requesting payment for the bonds through Google Play cards, Green Dot cards and other forms of prepaid cards and failure to pay the bond through he requested form of payment will result in their arrest.
