January 14, 2015 - Center High School is proud to announce the members of the 2015 Center Lady Rider Basketball Team.

January 13, 2015 - Center Roughrider Jacob Mitchell signed his letter of intent with LSU Shreveport to play with the Pilots. The ceremony was held in the Center High School library on Tuesday, January 13, 2015 with a large number of supporters in attendance including family, friends, school staff and Mitchell's teammates.
Following the signing, Pilots Coach Al Cantwell addressed the Roughrider baseball team and shared his excitement about Mitchell joining them, "We're obviously very excited to have this young man and I know you guys have got an exciting year coming up, I just want to wish you luck and thank you for sharing him. Make sure you keep us in touch, make sure you keep him in line. We look forward to getting him on campus and getting him in the weight room, show him around and I just want to thank the Mitchell family for joining our family."
He continued by stating they look forward to following the other Roughrider players and hopefully coming back to sign one of them in the future.
Mitchell shared his enthusiasm about signing and said he's just looking for his chance to play, "This is probably the most excited I've been in a really long time," said Mitchell.
Coach Cantwell shared some of the reasons Mitchell caught there attention, "We're excited, we got him up on our Futures Day, he was hands down the best arm in the building and we were the first ones to kind of get on him and got him on campus and had a good visit," said Coach Cantwell.
During the signing Mitchell posed with coaching staff from LSU, his family and the Center Roughrider team.
January 2, 2015 - Senior quarterback ReShod Williams of West Sabine was named Most Valuable Player on the 10-2A Division I All-District Team, which was voted on by league coaches. Williams was one of six individuals in the district to earn a superlative.
Shelbyville headman Jason Ferguson won the district’s Coach of the Year honor with an 9-1 record, San Augustine quarterback Jamikel Roberts took home Offensive Most Valuable Player and Joaquin linebacker Adam Mason won top defensive player.
Two freshmen tied for Newcomer of the Year recognition. Athlete Ethan Harris of Beckville was awarded a share as was Joaquin running back and safety Kase Yates.
Shelbyville and San Augustine led the district with 14 players named to first and second team lists each. Joaquin and West Sabine players and tied with 11 players recognized, Beckville had eight players on the lists and the group was rounded out by five Cushing players.

December 12, 2014 - The Center Roughriders JV and Freshmen Boys Basketball teams competed in the Tatum Basketball Tournament December 4th-6th. Both teams went undefeated in both brackets and claimed the championship in both divisions! Game results and opponents are as follows:

December 17, 2014 - The Varsity Boys Basketball team at Center High School competed with teams from the area at the Central Heights Holiday Hoopfest December 11th-13th.
They played two games up front on Thursday. The first was versus Central Heights and they came away with an 84-33 win. The second game was against White Oak and ended with another decisive victory 56 to 35. On Friday, the Riders faced Christian Heritage Ministries School and came out on top 65-43 sending them to the championship on Saturday versus Peaster.
After a very intense and close match-up, the Roughriders took the top spot 53 to 51. Octavius Evans was named tournament MVP and three other young men were named All-Tournament Players: CJ Garner, Tyrone Roland, and Kyle Parks.
For the 6th consecutive year, Tenaha ISD will host the Holiday Hoops Scholarship Classic on December 29, 30, and 31. Forty of the state’s top Class 1A, 2A, and 3A programs will descend upon Tenaha for an opportunity to battle it out on the hardwood for what has become one of Texas’ top invitational tournament trophies.
Last year’s tournament was record setting.
An estimated 1,100 fans attended the championship rounds in the Tenaha SEC where Kountze recorded its 4th title over White Oak in impressive fashion. Lipan’s renowned girls program picked up the girls’ championship by beating perennial state title contender Winnsboro. Each of these prominent programs return to Holiday Hoops this year and are joined by other playoff contending programs such as LaPoynor, Chireno, Saltillo, Harleton, Tenaha, White Oak, and Elysian Fields on the girl’s side, as well as, San Augustine, Central Heights, LaPoynor, Shelbyville, Saltillo, Laneville, and many many others on the boys’ side.
In all, this year’s tournament will feature 71 games over three days at five sites. Monday, December 29 will feature 32 total games. Action will start early at 8:00 AM and will run all day at multiple sites. Our satellite sites will operate from 8:00 AM until 2:30 PM with games, while the action in Tenaha is all day and the last game is set to tip at 9:00 PM. The Tuesday schedule is similar to Monday’s, but only 25 total games are on the slate. Wednesday is all about the trophies as nine games will be played in the Special Events Center for team trophies. Five additional games will take place in the Tiger Gym as courtesy games for participants.
Holiday Hoops would not be possible were it not for the great cooperation of local partners and the use of their facilities for games. Joaquin ISD, Gary ISD, and Carthage ISD have stepped forward and will be hosting games in the morning hours on December 29 and 30. But, for fans who want to stay in Tenaha and watch the action? It is time for another great edition of the Tiger Café. Unbelievable menus for lunch and dinner with better than restaurant quality at way better than restaurant prices will fill everyone’s appetite as they settle into the S.E.C. or the Tiger Gym for great hoops action.
Mark your calendars and ring in the New Year with Texas’ best small school basketball. It is sure to be the best Holiday Hoops event yet. And, this year we are expecting a Texas Shootout in Tenaha.
Cody Stone (AKA Double Deuce) won the 2014 IMCA Track Champion at Cardinal Speedway in Eunice, New Mexico. This is the 2nd year in a row which Cody has won the Track Champion Award. Cody is the son of Shawn and Laura Stone of Lovington, New Mexico and the grandson of Ann Stone of Center, Texas and the late Walter Stone. Cody is also the grandson of David and Brownie Hanhart of Center, Texas.

The Shelbyville Dragons and Garrison Bulldogs met at Dragon Stadium on a hot dry Friday night and when the dust had settled the Dragons had come away with a 31 to 22 victory.
The Bulldogs scored first on their second possession of the game when Bulldog quarterback Andrew Russell ran the ball in from 3 yards out. The two point PAT was good and the Bulldogs led 8 to 0.
The Dragons got on the board at the 5:24 mark of the second quarter when Dragon quarterback C.J. Watson connected with receiver Dyqavion Mallard on a 16 yard touchdown pass. The PAT was no good and the Bulldogs led 8 to 6. Following a Dragon recovery of a Bulldog fumble on the next kickoff the Dragons scored quickly when Octavian Burrell broke 42 yards through the middle of the Bulldog defense for a touchdown with 4:57 left in the second quarter. When the PAT was no good the Dragons led 12 to 8.
With 6:55 left in the third quarter following an eleven play drive Octavian Burrell went in from 3 yards out for the Dragons. C.J. Watson PAT kick was good and the Dragons led 19 to 8. On the Dragon’s next possession they drove the ball down the field only to turn it over on downs inside the Bulldog one yard line. Three plays later; however, Dyqavion Mallard recovered a Bulldog fumble in the end zone for a touchdown. The PAT was no good and the Dragons led 25 to 8 at the 2:00 mark of the third quarter.
The Bulldogs score again with 5:13 remaining in the fourth quarter when Rodney Bass ran it in from 12 yards out. After the PAT the Dragons led 25 to 15. The Dragons scored again with 2:19 to go in the fourth quarter when Octavian Burrell popped through from 4 yards out. With the PAT no good the Dragons led 31 to 15.
The final score of the night came as time expired in the game when Bulldog quarterback Andrew Russell scampered in from 21 yards out. With the PAT good the final score was Shelbyville Dragons 31 Garrison Bulldogs 22.
According to a forum on Smoaky.com, the Dragons' 31-22 win over the Bulldogs marks the first time since 1988 for the Dragons to defeat the Bulldogs in varsity football. The score in 1988 was 0 to 12 Dragons.
