November 23, 2018 - Operation Blue Santa drew on Thanksgiving Day and announced the winner of the Savage Trophy Hunter 6.5 Creedmoor with Nikon Scope to be Billy Neal of Center. Proceeds from the raffle go to Operation Blue Santa and delivering toys to kids for Christmas.

If you know of any child in Shelby County that may not have any Santa this Christmas, fill out an Operation Blue Santa form by November 30th. One form for each child and turn back into the Center Police Department Dispatch or Shelby County Today. This form will need to be returned to the PD no later than Thursday, November 30th 2018. Any form turned in after the due date will NOT be accepted. This ensures plenty of time to get all the toys needed. Remember, all forms are anonymous. 

Forms or monetary donations can also be mailed to BLUE SANTA at P.O. Box 322 Center, Tx 75935. If you would like to donate new toys, clothing, hygiene items please bring them to the Center Police Dept. Boys and girls of all ages will be needed, infant up to 15yrs old. The entire Blue Santa team would like to thank everyone for your generous donation to the Blue Santa program. With your donation and others like yours, we will be able to provide Christmas to many children in Shelby County. Again thank you, we can not do it without you! Let Blue Santa help You make a Childs Christmas blessed this year.

November 23, 2018 - The Golden Harvest Ministries Club members collected toys, stuffed animals, and made money donations to the Shelby County Advocacy Center at their November 19 meeting. Anna Register made a slide presentation on updates and progress at the Center.

November 20, 2018 - Shelby County Outreach Ministries, Inc. is having our annual Community Thanksgiving Dinner! This will be on Thanksgiving Day, November 22nd, 2018 at the Senior Nutrition Site. It will be from 11:00 am thru 1:00 pm. Come and bring the family! We would love to have you! If you are interested in a to-go plate or want to volunteer, call Mrs. Dee at 5968-7768.

November 20, 2018 - On Friday, November 16th the Center Garden Club made a donation to VFW Post 8904 in honor of Veterans Day. Presenting the donation to Larry Hume on behalf of the club was (from left) Carolyn Bounds, Janette Wittman, (Larry Hume, VFW Post Quartermaster), Cherry Jones, Linda Bordelon and Robbie Kerr.

November 16, 2018 - Pine Grove Nursing Center was full of sweetness Tuesday, November 13th at their 2nd annual Dessert Bake Off competition! 

The competition had 17 entries overall. Julie Harbison gave thanks, "I so appreciate everybody for coming. We had so much fun doing this last year that we wanted to do it again this year and I hope everybody has enjoyed all of the sweets that they have had."

Harbison then announced the winners. In the youth division, Gracie Gillis won first place with her cookies.

November 15, 2018 - The Shelby County Chamber of Commerce ambassadors welcomed new members during their Ambassador orientation luncheon held at the John D. Windham Civic Center on Thursday, November 15th.

Outgoing Ambassador President, Andi Foster thanked all the ambassadors for their willingness to volunteer and welcomed all new members to the organization cheering them on for their volunteer heart. New ambassadors attending the meeting were presented with name tags which they will wear to all Chamber events. New ambassadors recogized were: Lawrence Davis (Blake Furniture), Stephanie Elswick (Light and Champion), Karen Campbell (Holiday Nursing Center), and Ginia Hooper (Light and Champion).

November 15, 2018 - Tenaha Masonic Lodge members, Jay Wilson and Jerry Agnew, presented members of the Tenaha first grade class with their very own Fantastic Teeth Dental Kits. Tenaha ISD Physical Education teacher, Tammy Hamiliton, demonstrated good brushing and flossing techniques as well as teaching students the importance of good dental hygiene.

First graders learned that brushing your teeth properly at least 2 times a day for 2 minutes is very important. They also learned that brushing your tongue can get rid of germs that cause bad breath. The first graders were excited to celebrate how important it is to take care of you fantastic teeth!

November 14, 2018 - Delta Gamma members were delighted with the festive decor and food at their November meeting at the Culinary Arts Department at Center HS. Jennifer Fausett spoke about the improvements they have done this year in the program and the products they offer like freezer casseroles and holiday desserts. Members donated items for a silent auction to benefit their local scholarship fund for a student in education each year. Delta Gamma is an organization of key women educators from Sabine, Shelby, and San Augustine counties.

November 13, 2018 - Shelby County Outreach Ministries offers thanks to Woodforest National Bank in Center.

Woodforest National Bank is having a canned food drive to support Shelby County Outreach Ministries, Inc. from November 13th thru December 1st. So while you are shopping at Wal-Mart, please pick up a few extra cans of food and drop them off at Woodforest National Bank, which is located inside the store! Thank you for your support!

November 12, 2018 - Texas Garden Clubs District III Recording Secretary Linda Bordelon represented Center Garden Club at the District III Fall Meeting held November 8, 2018 in Livingston, Texas hosted by the Polk County Garden Club. With a theme "Sweet Fall Festival" 56 members represented 14 garden clubs from District III. Members learned new ideas for programs, projects, and activities; were able to shop ways and means for plants and gardening items; and enjoy fellowship and a luncheon catered by the Polk County Garden Club. Local beekeeper Karla Rudebusch presented a program on "Honey Bees."
