May 19, 2015 - American Pickers episode filmed in Joaquin will be aired this Wednesday, May 20, 2015 at 8:00 pm Central Time on the History Channel.
According to the American Pickers website, the episode named "Texas Hold 'Em" features Joaquin resident Dennis Leggett. Mike and Frank finally get access to their white whale pick, but not-for-sale Dennis earned his nickname for a reason; in Texas, the guys meet a collector who's filled an entire town with his mammoth stockpile.

May 19, 2015 - Margie Anderson, Justice of the Peace Precinct 3, swore in the newly elected City of Joaquin Mayor, Bill Baker and City Council Members, Joe Long and Mike Atkinson Monday, May 18th at the Joaquin City Council Regular Meeting.
May 15, 2015 - Jordan Wagstaff, the grandson of James and Glenda Wagstaff of Center, will be participating in a special race honoring an FDNY fire chief who lost his life on September 11, 2001.
The special race is a first ever Stair-Climb Benefit at One World Trade Center to be held on May 17, 2015. Registration for the event was limited to 1,000 participants and Wagstaff will be amoung the few.
May 13, 2015 - According to Superintendent Mid Johnson, the Middle School campus at Timpson ISD was evacuated Wednesday, May 13, 2015 due to an air conditioning failure which caused smoke inside the building. The campus was safely evacuated and everyone is safe and well. Johnson would like to thank everyone for their patience.
May 11, 2015 - A proclamation was signed by Shelby County Judge Allison Harbison on May 11, 2015 in recognition of National Nursing Home Week.
The proclamation reads as follows:
Whereas, all residents of Shelby County have been given a proud legacy build upon the past and present contributions of our country's elderly and disabled people; and
Whereas, we salute the residents of our nursing facilities, many of whom planted the seeds that made our communities grow and prosper; and
May 9, 2015 - (Updated) Ballots have been cast and counted and election results for cities and schools this May 9th election day are:
City of Joaquin: The new mayor of Joaquin is Bill Baker. Bill Baker received 58 votes and Pat Gray received 52 votes. (Mike Wood did not run for re-election.)
The two (2) at large City Council positions were won by Mike Adkinson and Joe Long. Mike Adkinson received 69 votes, Lee Vern Stotts Gilliam received 46 votes, and Joe Long received 55 votes.
May 8, 2015 - A new Roughrider Scholarship was established in memory of Delores Ann Walker after a donation was presented in her memory on Tuesday, April 21, 2015 during Rotary meeting.
May 8, 2015 - Devon Energy Corporation presented a $4,000 donation to the Shelby County Sheriff's Office (SCSO) for the purchase of 13 new cameras for the department on Friday, May 8, 2015. Shelby County Sheriff Willis Blackwell accepted the check presented by Todd Bush, Production Foreman for Devon.
Sheriff Blackwell apprised the office had purchased cameras several years ago with what money was available; however, they weren't of a high quality. The new cameras will serve the department much better because they have night vision and the video quality is much better.
