The Center Lady Roughriders took a 39-29 win over the visiting Rusk Lady Eagles on Friday during a District 17 4A conference game. The Lady ‘Riders defense started out strong and only allowed Rusk a single point during the first period. Center took an 8-1 advantage into the second quarter.
The Timpson Bears defeated the visiting Tenaha Tigers by an 84-54 score in Tuesday’s District 23 Class 2A conference varsity basketball game. The Bears are now 10-3 for the season and they have a 2-0 conference mark. The Tigers are 1-1 in district play and they are 7-4 overall.
Tenahas’ Twelfth Holiday Hoops Basketball Tournament has moved to Day 2 competition. Among local teams still participating in the 3-day event was the Tenaha boys varsity team who played the Jefferson Bulldogs. The Tigers held a 48-44 advantage at the end of the third quarter and they held on for a 57-53 win.
The Tenaha Lady Tigers Varsity Basketball team took a 62-48 District 23 2A win over the visiting Shelbyville Lady Dragons. Tenaha led 18-11 at the end of the first quarter.
THS outscored Shelbyville 18-14 in the second period and the Lady Tigers took a 36-25 advantage into the midway intermission.
The Timpson Bears varsity football team took a 48-13 state quarterfinal win over the Centerville Tigers. The game was close at 14-13 at the midway intermission but the Bears were able to outscore the Tigers 34-0 during the second half of play.
