Exa Mae Tyler, 99, of Center, Texas, passed away on October 15, 2022, in Center, Texas. She was born on April 19, 1923, in Center, Texas, to the late Thomas Martin and Grace Lou Fielder Martin.

Funeral service will be held at Mangum Funeral Home, on Wednesday, October 19, 2022, at 2pm. Visitation will be held prior to the service on October 19, 2022, beginning at 1PM until service time at Mangum Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Newburn Cemetery, Center, Texas.

Exa was born and raised in Shelby County. She resided many years in the Houston area working in the food service industry. She enjoyed quilting, gardening, and reading and studying God’s word. She especially found great joy spending time with family.

B (Becky) Adrienne Maidic, 87 of Center, passed away October 11, Tuesday evening 2022 in Center, Texas. She was born July 20, 1935 in New York City to Albert and Blanche Beck.

Per Becky’s request, a memorial service was conducted at Watson and Sons Funeral Home at 11am on Thursday, October 13, 2022 with Rev. Malcom Monroe officiating.

Becky grew up and graduated from High School in Oklahoma. Becky was employed with Corporate Office of Exxon, Inc. in Houston, Texas until her retirement in 1974.

After a long courtship with her best friend of 18 years, Becky married Frank Evan Maidic in 1979. Frank retired from Hudson Hardware Company as a Sales Representative and the couple purchased a chicken farm in Center and raised chickens until Franks death in 2000.

She is preceded in death by her mother, Blanche Martin and her husband, Frank Evan Maidic.

She leaves to cherish her memories:

Derwin Wayne Armstrong, 63 of Center, passed away Tuesday, October 11, 2022 in Center. He was born June 14, 1959 to Carl Armstrong Sr. and Fannie Hubbard McCoy in Houston, Texas.

Funeral service is 1pm on Saturday, October 15, 2022 at Community Funeral Home Chapel, 157 CR 2230, Center, Texas with Reverend Fields officiating.

He sang in the choir at St. Paul Baptist Church at an early age with his grandmother Florine McCoy.

He attended Jones High School in Houston, Texas. He later married Rosalyn Doggins Armstrong. He was a jack of all trades and was employed by Tyson Foods.

He is preceded in death by his father, Carl Armstrong, Sr.; son, Derwin Armstrong, Jr.; and siblings, Franklin McCoy, Bruce Armstrong, and Barbara Taylor.

Morris Wayne Brown was born November 23, 1938 to Hugh Brown and Ima Brown Furlow in Huxley, Texas.  He went to his heavenly home on Wednesday, October 12, 2022.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Friday, October 14, 2022, at Watson & Sons Funeral Home in Center.  Funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, October 15, 2022, at Watson & Sons Chapel with Rusty Hall officiating.  Interment will follow at Wimberly Cemetery in Shelbyville.

Morris retired from AT&& after 33 years of service.  He was a lifetime member of the Old Spanish Trail Ride from 1957 to his death.  He served as Trail Boss from 1980 until his death.  He was a lifetime member of the Houston Livestock and Rodeo serving on several committees.  Morris’s life was his family and his trail ride family.  He was a diehard Joaquin Ram’s fan.  He graduated from Joaquin Class of 1957.  He loved the University of Texas Longhorns.  He joined the army in December of that year serving his country for 3 years.

Esther Lee Bledsoe Norris, 93 of Joaquin, passed away Monday, October 10, 2022. She was born to John Henry Bledsoe, Sr., and Fannie Lee Williams Bledsoe on December 30, 1928 in Mansfield, Louisiana.

In 1944, she married Josh Norris, Jr. (deceased). To this union six children were born.

Justin Lynn McSwain, 37, of Center, passed away Saturday, October 8, 2022, in Center.

Born April 7, 1985, in Nacogdoches, Justin was the son of Donna Marie Moore McSwain and Ronnie Lynn McSwain.  Justin graduated from Center High School in 2003. He enjoyed the outdoors – hunting and fishing. He was incredibly smart and so talented at welding and tinkering on his many trucks and projects. He loved his family so deeply and loved spending time with them – especially with his boys. He cared about his siblings so much and was very protective of them. Growing up he was always so energetic and happy and full of life and ambition. When he was a kid, he had a bag full of drawings and plans for their clubhouse they built. He was fearless and tough, a leader. He was also fiercely competitive and naturally good at anything and everything he did.

Francis Irvin McGrath, Jr., 78, of Timpson, Texas, passed away on September 21, 2022, in Timpson, Texas. He was born on September 16, 1944, in Victoria, Texas to the late Francis, Sr. and Dorothy (Leonard) McGrath. Funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm Wednesday, September 28, 2022, at Garrison Funeral Home, officiated by Chaplain Steve Jackson. Interment will follow at Cold Springs Cemetery, Garrison, Texas. 

Visitation will be held prior to the service from 12:00 to 1:00 pm Wednesday, September 28, 2022, at Garrison Funeral Home.

Francis grew up in Victoria, Texas.  He joined the Marines right out of high school.  He served 4 years with the Marines and earned the rank of Corporal before his discharge. Francis then went on to serve as a Game Warden with the Texas Parks and Wildlife office in Corpus Christi, Texas where he met his wife, Jenna. They were married in Denton, Texas on July 20, 1989.  Francis enjoyed shooting and reloading ammo and was a member of the National Rifle Association. He also spent time bird watching and taking pictures of nature. Francis was a collector of curios and relics. He loved spending time with his family and will be greatly missed.

Tina Marie Jacobs, 54 of Center, passed away on Monday, September 19, 2022. She was born June 22, 1968 to James Charles Jacobs and Patsy Ann Handy.

A homecoming celebration will be held at 11am on Saturday, September 24, 2022 at Community Funeral Home Chapel, 157 CR 2230, Center, Texas.

DeBrodrick Montreal Jones, 20 of Center, passed away Sunday night, September 18, 2022 at CHI St. Lukes in San Augustine.

Funeral service is Saturday, September 24, 2022 at 12 noon at Center Triumph Church with Bishop Howard Cloudy, Sr. officiating. Interment at Thompson Cemetery.

God was so just and faithful that he decided to bless Tammie Jones and Sir Roderick Sparks with a Prince, they named DeBrodrick Montreal Jones. Watching this fearless child morph into an amazing son, Big brother, Grandson, Nephew and Dad was a pleasure. At an early age in life, he developed a passion for motorcycles, horses, fast cars amongst other hobbies, especially the Jordan sneakers. He was determined to ride a horse and taught himself how to wheelie on his first dirt bike when he was only 5 years old. His charismatic, life of the party personality, would birth his after ego "BHub" and would make him a legend at the young age of 20. He had a genuine heart and a determining spirit, accomplishing whatever he put his mind to. His life became more fulfilling when Zeek, DeeDee and Duece entered his world. With all of his accomplishment, Daddy made him the proudest. He lived a life that only God had ordained and it was to the fullest.

He is preceded in death by grandfather, Lonnie Steward.

Juanita Williams, 89 of Joaquin, Texas died Saturday, September 10, 2022, at the local emergency room in Center, Texas. He was born to the late Andrew Williams Sr. and the late Accie Richards Williams in Haslem, Texas.

Funeral service will be Monday, September 26, 2022, at 11:30am at Hicks Chapel. Visitation is Monday, September 26, 2022, at 10:30am at Hicks Chapel. Committal is at  Northwest Veterans Cemetery, Keithville, Louisiana.

Due to COVID 19, masks are required during visitation and funeral services.  All safety procedures are strictly enforced.

Williams enlisted into the United States Army on December 7, 1954, serving his country for 2 years.
