JV game at Huntington for Thursday September 2nd has been cancelled.

August 30, 2021 - Tenaha's JV game this Thursday, September 2, vs Center will be played in Tenaha at 5:30pm.

Tenaha's Varsity game is in Arp this Friday, September 3, at 7:30pm. The schedule says 7 and it is moved to 7:30pm.

Tenaha Raymond Jackson Stadium on Saturday, August 28, 2021 –

The Tenaha Tigers varsity football team wasted no time as they defeated the visiting Honey Grove Warriors by a 35-0 score. The Tigers covered 65 yards in two plays on a drive which was finished with a Jeremy Patton touchdown run with 11:36 still left to play in the first quarter. Tiger Manuel Laredo kicked the extra point to give THS a 7-0 advantage. The Warriors soon after turned the ball back over on downs. Tenaha fumbled after a short possession.

The Warriors next moved the ball on a 7-play drive but, on fourth down, Tenaha’s  Ja’Tyrian Moore took a punt 88 yards for the Tiger’s second touchdown of the game. Laredo again booted the point after to give THS a 14-0 lead.

Moore intercepted a Warriors pass near midfield which led to the Tigers getting a 3-yard touchdown run from Javare Brown with 3:35 still left in the first period. Tenaha gained a 21-0 advantage.

Markevion Rasberry scored, during the second stanza, on a 3-yard run with 9:20 left in the first half of play. Another extra point gave THS a 28-0 lead.

Moore scored on a 30-yard reception from Trindon Claiborne with 5:47 left in the second period. Laredo’s extra point kick proved to be the final point of the contest. Tenaha moved the ball effectively to protect the 35-0 lead throughout the second half of the contest.

Tenaha now stands at 1-0 for the season and they will next travel to Arp High School next Friday, September 3, 2021 for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff at Arp Tigers Stadium.

Roughriders Stadium on Friday, August 27,2021 –

The visiting Tatum Eagles took an early 7-0 lead during the Center Roughriders varsity football home opener on Friday. A 35-yard scoring strike from Eagles quarterback Kendric Malone to Kendal Williams gave THS the lead with 5:13 left in the opening period. Tatum added another touchdown reception late in the fist quarter when Malone hit Remington O’Brien for a 9-yard score with just 24 seconds left in the first quarter.

A special team miscue by Center gave the Eagles a 21-0 lead when Jackson Richardson picked up a short punt and raced into the endzone early in the second period.

The Roughriders got on the scoreboard when Da’nijhalon Gipson raced 72 yards for a touchdown on the ensuing kickoff. An extra point kick by Carlos Hernandez helped cut the THS lead to 21-7 with 11:22 remaining in the second stanza.

Malone hit Jayden Boyd for another Tatum touchdown reception with 6:36 left in the first half and the Eagles gained a 28-7 advantage.

Center later cut the Eagle’s lead to 28-14 when sophomore quarterback Emonte Cross scored on a keeper run from 1 yard out to cap a 69-yard CHS scoring drive with just 37 seconds left in the first half.

The Eagle’s ballooned their lead to 55-14 by the 2:12 mark of the third quarter. Center scored first in the final quarter when Cross completed a touchdown pass to cut the THS lead to 55-20 with 10:49 left in the final quarter. Gipson later scored from 40 yards away for Centers’ final score with 4:12 remaining and Tatum led 61-26 at that point.

The Eagles made the final score to take a 68-26 lead with 1 minute remaining which held up for the final score.

Center’s regular season record stands at 0-1. They will host the Jefferson Bulldogs on Friday, September 3, 2021 for the Roughrider’s Homecoming with kickoff slated for 7:30 p.m.

Joaquin Rams Stadium on Thursday, August 26, 2021 –

The Joaquin Rams varsity football team led most of Thursday’s varsity opener against the visiting Beckville Bearcats but, they ultimately fell by a 50-39 score in a disappointing loss.

Joaquin gained a 6-0 lead with just 1:41 left in the opening period when junior Rams quarterback Cole Bragg took a keeper into the endzone from 2 yards out for the game’s first score.

Beckville took a 7-6 lead with 6 minutes left in the second quarter when Jkoby Williams raced downfield for a 73-yard score and the Bearcats added an extra point kick.

Gauge Jordan helped gave JHS a 12-7 lead with 4:40 left in the half with a 30-yard touchdown run, Malik Stotts added a 2-point conversion reception to the Rams tally which gave JHS a 14-7 lead.

Karter Jones returned the ensuing kickoff 72 yards for a BHS touchdown which tied the game 14-14 second later.

Andre Brown scored from 3 yards out to score on Joaquin’s next drive. JHS took a 20-14 lead with 2:56 left in the first half of play.

Bo Hammons hit Tyler Bryan for a 52-yard strike to give BHS a narrow 21-20 lead with just 1:52 left in the second stanza.

Andre Brown scored from 50 yards out with just 32 seconds left in the first half which gave Joaquin a 26-21 lead at halftime.

Scores early in the second half by Stotts and Bragg gave JHS a 39-21 advantage with 5:16 remaining in the third period. However, Beckville outscored the Rams 28-0 in the remaining 17 plus minutes to take the 50-39 road win.

The Rams regular season record stands at 0-1. They will next travel to Elysian Fields on Friday, September 3, 2021 for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff at Yellowjackets Stadium.

All Dates from 5:00 to 7:00pm

Parents are encouraged to come by City Hall at 617 Tenaha Street to sign up also. Office hours are Monday – Friday 8-4:30pm. If one of the signup dates doesn’t work for you, please come by City Hall before September 4th to sign up. After September 3th, there will be a $15 late fee added to the registration. August 25, 2021 - The Center Lady Rider Volleyball team played Tuesday, August 24, and lost in five close sets to Gary. Center lost their first set 26-28 but tied it up by taking the second set with a 26-24 score. Gary came back to take the third set while Center continued to fight winning the 4th set 25-21. The match was decided in the final set which was won by Gary.

Shelby County high school football is headed into Week 1 of regular season, non-district, football competition. All five county teams have a game this week.

The Center Roughriders head into their Week 1 game with a new head coach Ricky Meeks. Center faces their former district rival, the Tatum Eagles at home in Roughriders Stadium. Kickoff is at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, August 27,2021.

The Joaquin Rams will play a rare Thursday game when they host the Beckville Bearcats at Rams Stadium. Kickoff will be at 7:30 p.m. on August 26, 2021.

The Shelbyville Dragons will host The Grapeland Sandies on Friday, August 27 a 7:30 p.m. kickoff is at Dragons Stadium.

The Tenaha Tigers host the Honey Grove Warriors at home in Raymond Jackson Stadium at 2 p.m. on Saturday, August 28.

The Timpson Bears will travel to Frankston on Friday, August 27 for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff at Indians Stadium.
