The Texas University Interscholastic League has announced its seasonal rule changes for the coming year. Among the most notable changes was one addressing on the field misconduct towards game officials. This amendment to Section 1207, Rules, Violations and Penalties, clarifies the authority of the UIL State Executive Committee and District Executive Committee when an assault of a sports official occurs by a student and requires schools to develop a policy for preventing a spectator who commits an assault of a sports official from attending future UIL events. More changes can be found on the UIL website: www.uiltexas.org

County teams began practices on August 2, 2021 by holding conditioning drills. Their first contact practices started on August 7. Shelby county will begin scrimmages on August 12 and the final scrimmages will conclude on August 26 for teams not participating in Week 1 games.

Week 1 non-district football games start on August 26-28. The final regular season games end on November 6. Playoffs will conclude with the State Championship Playoffs held December 15-18.

July 28, 2021 - The Center 9U All Stars traveled to Texarkana this past weekend and competed against 5 states consisting of 9 other teams.

This Center team has been very successful over the past 3 years coming up just short of the grand title. The team started the Tournament season with a warmup tournament in Bullard where they were undefeated. At the State Tournament in Center July 10 -12, Center encountered their first loss of the season against a strong Hudson team. Center worked their way back to the championship where they beat Hudson twice in back to back games to win the Texas State Championship.

During the World Series, Center went 6-1 to win the Championship. The tournament started off with 4 games of pool play on Friday and Saturday then went into single elimination on Sunday. In Fridays pool games, Center defeated Grant Parish, LA at 9:45am and incurred their second loss of the season against a tough team from Ruston, LA at 3:00pm. On Saturday, Center defeated both North Texarkana, AR and Hudson, TX at 8:00am and 3:00pm respectively.

After pool play, there were 3 teams tied with 3-1 records. Ruston, Center, and Hudson would have to let the tie breaker of runs allowed between their games to decide their seeding. They allowed 11, 12, and 13 runs respectively, therefore Ruston was #1 seed, Center was #2 seed, and Hudson was #3 seed.

In Bracket play, Center escaped a close game with their first opponent from Monroe, LA at 9:45am. Karson Link pitched 69 pitches in 3 2/3 innings. Easton Lee had the save. They had to overcome a 6-2 deficit against Laurel Jones County, MS to win their semi-final game 7-6 at 1:15pm. Shade McDonald threw 75 pitches for the game. In the Championship game against Ruston, LA, Center took no chances and jumped out to an early lead and maintained it to win the Championship 5-3.

Cullen Henson threw 75 pitches in 4 innings.  Easton Lee had the save. In Pool Play, Lincoln Willoughby and Brennan Eberenz had wins pitching. One note, Center had to defeat the State Champions from Louisiana, Mississippi, and Arkansas to bring home the Title.

Although we have had many teams represent Center, TX at a Dixie World Series, this marks the first time that Center has had a team win it. If you see one of the players or coaches around town, please congratulate them on a job well done. There are many hours put in by both sides when a team makes it this far into the tournament season.

A special presentation will be presented to this team soon.

Center ISD recently wrapped up their 2021 summer football camp for grades 1-5. The camp was held for three days and taught the youth football skills with drills and competitions. Head Coach Richard Meeks was spotted among a crew of about ten coaches who helped with instruction during the event.

Winners of the camp were first grader Sloane Meeks, second grade Malcolm Harrison, third grade Beckett Meeks, fourth DJ Cartwright, and fifth grade A’Myriah Humphrey.

Smiles were on the faces of all the participants and the camp concluded with the campers and coaches thanking each other with handshakes.

The Roughriders high school football program was conducting their two-a-day workouts at the stadium as well on Wednesday.

July 20, 2021 - We are thrilled to share that the Shelbyville 8U All-Stars clenched the Texas Dixie Youth Baseball Division II State Championship this past Saturday in Longview, Texas after defeating Daingerfield in three games.

The boys will be representing the great State of Texas July 29, 2021 - August 3, 2021 at the World Series in Laurel, Mississippi. They are coached by Greg McDonald, Jacob Best, Jake Mathews and Ricky Lee.

This team of exceptional young men are all students at Shelbyville School. They have spent countless hours this summer practicing in preparation for the opportunity to represent Texas at the World Series, and they have impressed many with their focus, drive, and determination throughout the post-season.

Through District, Regional and State Tournament play, the Dragons have shown to be quite formidable, outscoring their opponents 210-40 to date.

This is the first team from Shelbyville to ever travel to the World Series and donor support is needed to help cover travel costs, uniforms and hotel stays. All proceeds go directly to the boy's expenses for the World Series.

If we are fortunate enough to raise additional funds exceeding what is needed for the World Series, that money will be donated back to Shelbyville Youth Sports for much needed field maintenance and complex updates.

Sponsors will be recognized on social media once they have committed to a donation. Additionally, a permanent sign for the Shelbyville Youth Sports Complex will be made recognizing their generosity.

If you are interested in supporting the team as they travel to the World Series, please call Raegan at (936)332-0052 for details.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Sincerely,
Shelbyville 8U All-Stars
