January 31, 2020 - Shelbyville Lady Dragons are preparing for the 2020 Softball season which begins in February. The Lady Dragons will host Cushing for a scrimmage game on February 13th at 5pm. To see the full schedule for the 2020 Season, click here.
Tuesday, January 28, 2020 at Center Roughriders Gymnasium –
The Center Roughriders and Lady Roughriders each competed in District 9 Class 4A varsity basketball contest with Jasper, on Tuesday, at Center High School.
The Lady Roughriders used solid defense to hold the Jasper Lady Bulldogs to just six points during the first quarter and Center took a 11-6 advantage into the second period. Center also outscored Jasper in the second stanza and they took a 10-point advantage into the halftime intermission while leading 23-13.
The third period saw Jasper bounce back to within six points and Center went into the fourth quarter leading 32-26. The Lady ‘Riders outpaced the Lady ‘Dogs 16-14 in the final frame to take a 48-40 conference win.
Center was led by Beyonce Bell with 13 points, Jasper was led by Shabralyn Watson with 20 points.
The win gives Center a 3-2 conference mark with three District 9 4A games remaining. The Lady ‘Riders are currently in third place trailing Jasper, 4-1, after handing them their first loss. Carthage is in second with a 3-1 mark.
The boy’s varsity matchup was close early and had many lead changes until Jasper pulled away midway in the second quarter. Jasper led 32-26 at halftime, 49-38 at the end of the third period, and they eventually won this contest by a 60-54 final score.
Center was led by Makel Johnson with 21 points. Teammates, Jamarrion Evans scored 13 and Jumarcus McCollister had 12, Jasper was led by Jermario Thomas Jr. with 12 points.
The Roughriders are in third place with a 1-2 mark. Carthage leads the District with a 3-0 conference record.
The ‘Riders and Lady ‘Riders will travel to Huntington next Friday, January 31, 2020. Subvarsity action begins at 4:30 p.m. with varsity game to follow.
January 28, 2020 - Tenaha ISD announces only Soccer Girls will play in Crockett today, February 28th at 5:30pm. The basketball teams, JVB/VB/JVG/VG, versus Joaquin will be played in the Tenaha Special Events Center at 4:30pm. The Tiger Café’ opens at 5:00 pm.
Rams Gymnasium, Friday, January 24, 2020 –
The Timpson Bears and Lady Bears travelled to Joaquin High School on Friday to compete in District 22 2A varsity and sub-varsity games.
The Timpson Lady Bears wasted no time in starting to build a lead as they led 10-4 midway through the first period and 17-9 by the buzzer which signaled the end of the first stanza. By the midway intermission, Timpson held a twenty-point advantage with a 34-14 lead. The third period ended with the Lady Bears ahead 48-21 on their way to taking a 59-28 final score win.
The Lady Rams were led by JJ Bass with 8 points. High scorers for Timpson were Harlie Ware with 18 points and Brylee Behrens with 16.
Timpson is atop the District 22 leader board with an 8-1 conference mark. They have a 22-6 overall record with five regular season games remaining. They have clinch one of four playoff spots.
Joaquins’ district season mark falls to 2-14 and they will next travel to Tenaha on Tuesday, January 28, 2020. Sub-varsity action will start at 4:30 p.m.
The Joaquin Rams boy’s varsity team fell to Timpson by a 59-36 score. The Rams gained a 11-9 lead by the end of the first quarter of play. Timpson overtook Joaquin in the second quarter by outscoring JHS by a 3-16 point differential. The Bears took a 25-14 lead into the midway break.
Timpson was able to extend their lead slightly to 37-25 by the end of the third period. They outscored Joaquin 22-11 in the fourth quarter to take the 59-36 win.
The Bears were led by Braden Courtney with 19 points. The Rams were led by Lorenzo Lane with 10 points.
The Bears have a 2-4 District 22 2A mark and are in fifth place trailing Shelbyville, Tenaha, Woden and San Augustine. Their playoff dreams are still very much alive with seven conference games remaining.
Center High School Gymnasium, Tuesday, January 21, 2020 –
The Center Boys and Girls basketball teams each took District 20 Class 4A wins Tuesday at Center Roughriders Gymnasium. The Lady Roughriders beat the Hudson Lady Hornets by a 69-32 score and the Roughriders beat the Hornets 68-54.
The girl’s varsity game was never close and Center gained a 20-4 lead by the end of the first quarter. By halftime the CHS lead grew to 41-6. The Lady ‘Riders were outscored 13-14 in the third period but still led 54-20 going into the final period of play. Center eventually cruised to a 69-32 win.
The Lady ‘Riders record stands at 7-7, 2-2 in District 20 action.
The boy’s varsity matchup was much closer. The Roughriders jumped out to a 10-4 lead early and led 18-11 at the end of the first stanza, They held a 33-29 lead at the midway intermission. Center outscored Hudson 15-9 in the third period and took a 48-38 point advantage into the fourth quarter. The ‘Riders outpaced the Hornets 20-16 in the final period to take the win by a final score of 68-54.
The Roughriders were led by Makel Johnson with 18 points. Jamarcus McCollister scored 14, Zacc Smith 13 and Jamarrion Evans was another ‘Rider in double-digits with 12 points. Hudson’s Teraven Rhodes led the Hornets with 22 points.
The Roughriders are 11-15 this season and have a 1-1 conference mark.
The Lady Roughriders will host the Jasper Bulldogs next Tuesday, January 28, 2020 at 6 p.m. in Center, The Roughriders varsity boys team’s game will follow.
Tenaha Special Events Center, Friday, January 17, 2020 –
The Shelbyville Dragons and Lady Dragons each won their District 22 2A varsity basketball games while visiting Tenaha on Friday. The Lady Dragons defeated the Lady Tigers by a 51-45 score. The Dragons overcame the Tigers in overtime by a 78-75 margin.
The Lady Tigers and Dragons battled hard in a close basketball game for most of the contest. Tenaha held a slim 6-5 point lead at the end of the first quarter. The Lady Dragons were able to tie the game at 14-14 going into the locker room at the halftime intermission. Shelbyville led by as much as 11 points during the third stanza but Tenaha cut their lead to 32-24 by the buzzer at the end of the third quarter.
Eight points in the fourth quarter by Lady Dragon’s post Brooke Elliott gave SHS the advantage they needed to hang on and take the district win by a score of 51-45.
Leading scorers for Shelbyville were Brooke Elliott with 20 points, Jakaitlin Bolton and Kiana Bennett each had 13 points.
Tenaha leading scorers were Anali Giles with 12 points and Kamari Gray had 10.
Both Shelbyville and Tenaha are still in the hunt for playoff berths with 7 games remaining. The Lady Dragons are currently in third place with a 5-2 conference mark. Tenaha is in fourth with a 3-3 District 22 2A mark. Woden in undefeated and in sole possession of the first spot while Timpson is in second with a single loss.
The boy’s varsity matchup between Tenaha and Shelbyville was close throughout and the SHS Dragons ended up taking the 78-75 win in overtime. Tenaha led early and led 15-11 after the end of the first quarter. Shelbyville fought back and took a 34-29 lead in to the midway break.
Tenaha was able to cut the Shelbyville lead by just one point in the third stanza but they outpaced the Dragons 21-17 during the final period to send the contest into a 4-minute overtime period knotted at 66-66.
The Dragons outscored the Tigers 12-9 in the overtime frame and took the win by 3 points.
The Dragons were led by Jay Buckley with 39 points. LD Coleman and Kolby Parker each scored 13 points apiece. The Tigers were led by Mike Hogg with 30 points and Duece Garrett had 22.
The Dragons are atop the District 22 2A leaderboard with a 5-0 record. Tenaha stands at 3-1.
The Tigers and Lady Tigers will host Garrison on Friday, January 21, 2020 at the THS Special Events Center. Junior Varsity will start at 4:30 p.m. with varsity action to follow.
The Dragons and Lady Dragons will travel to San Augustine to face the Wolves on Friday, January 21, with JV starting at 4:30 p.m. Varsity action will follow.
January 16, 2020 - The Joaquin Rams 2020 baseball season begins games starting February 25th. The team will travel to Waskom for a 6:30pm game. Click here to see the full schedule.
Center Roughriders Gymnasium, Monday, January 13, 2020 –
The Center Roughriders boy’s basketball teams concluded pre-district action by hosting the Pleasant Grove Hawks 9th Grade, Junior Varsity, and Varsity teams. The ninth grade boys contest was close early and Center trailed only 12-14 at halftime. The PG Hawks began to pull away during the third period and they led the ‘Riders 28-14 going into the final period of play. The Hawks eventually beat the Roughriders by a 38-27 margin.
Junior Varsity saw many lead changes during the contest. Center trailed Pleasant Grove’s boys 8-11 at the end of the first quarter. The ‘Riders took a narrow 19-18 lead into the midway break. The Hawks overtook the ‘Riders and led 31-26 going into the fourth quarter but Center bounced back to win by a 34-33 score.
The varsity boys contest was an exciting back-and-forth contest which saw Center lead 13-10 at the end of the first quarter and they held a 29-21 lead at the midway break. Pleasant Grove battled back and the Hawks tied the game at 42-42 by the end of the third stanza.
A 3-point shot by the Hawk’s gave them a 45-42 lead and they led by as much as six points during the fourth quarter. The’ Riders gave an excellent effort to try to tie things up but eventually fell to the Hawks by a 57-54 score.
Zacc Smith led Center with 11 points, Makel Johnson had 10, Jason Calloway 9, Jamarrion Evans 8, Jamarcus McCollister 6, Jordon Patton 3, Malik Patton and Jacob Liker each had two points and Jermichael Weathered scored one point.
The Roughriders are coached by Hiram Harrison, first assistant Alex Munoz and assistants Juan Day, Tony Turner, Brandon Ganske, and Jalen Hubbard.
Center’s varsity record now stands at 10-14. They will compete in their first District 20 Class 4A contest at Carthage High School next Friday, January 17, 2020 at 7:30 p.m.
Friday, January 10, 2020 at Joaquin Rams Gymnasium –
The Shelbyville Lady Dragons struggled early with the Joaquin Lady Rams. The two teams faced off in a District 22 2A game at Joaquin High School and the Lady Dragons led 13-10 at the end of the first quarter. The Lady Rams were able to outscore the Lady Dragons 19 -16 points during the second stanza and this tied things up at 29-29 at the midway intermission.
The third period would prove to be all Shelbyville and also the biggest difference in the game as SHS outscored Joaquin 15-1 and they took a 44-30 lead over the Lady Rams going into the final period of play.
Shelbyville outpaced Joaquin 19-17 in the final quarter on their way to a 63-47 win.
Riley Sherrod was the game’s high scorer with 24 points, Lady Rams teammate Kalie Brooks scored 11. The Dragons were led by Kiana Bennett with 23 points. Brooke Elliott added 18 points and Kioja Gates chipped in 14.
After taking a 10-point lead over Joaquin by the 2:40 mark of the first quarter, Shelbyville’s boy’s varsity went on to lead 21-10 by the end of the first quarter. By halftime the Dragons ballooned their lead to 42-19.
SHS outscored Joaquin 27-10 in the third stanza which allowed them to take a 67-29 lead into the final quarter. The Dragon would win this game by an 80-44 final score.
The Dragons were led by Jay Buckley with 22 points, Brayden Hand 14 and LD Coleman with 10 points. Lorenzo Lane scored 18 points for the Rams and teammate Drew Fuller had 12.
Shelbyville will host the Timpson Bears on Tuesday, January 14, 2020 with junior varsity action tipping off at 4 p.m. and varsity to follow.
Joaquin will travel to Garrison next Tuesday where jv will play at 4 p.m. and varsity follows.
January 10, 2020 - There will only be two varsity games (boys and girls) played tonight, January 10th starting at 5:00 p.m. The JV games originally scheduled for today have been cancelled. The varsity games will be played in Joaquin as scheduled.
