October 17, 2019 –

This week will see the Center Roughriders take an open-bye week. The ‘Riders are 4-3 overall this year and are 1-0 in District 9 4A action after beating Tarkington 62-42 last week. CHS will travel to Shepherd on October 25, 2019 for their next game.

The Joaquin Rams will host the Timpson Bears on Friday, October 18, 2019 at 7:30 p.m. at Rams Stadium. This will be the Rams homecoming. Joaquin won 60-15 at Linden-Kildare. The Rams are 5-1 overall and they are 2-0 in District 11 2A competition. Timpson beat the Garrison Bulldogs 7-0 at Timpson last week. They are 3-4 overall with a District 11 record of 1-2.

The Shelbyville Dragons won their first District 12 2A game over Deweyville by a 16-2 score. The Dragons are 5-1 and will travel to West Sabine on Friday to face the Tigers at 7 p.m. WHHS is 2-3. They opened up conference play with a 56-20 loss at Groveton last week.

The Tenaha Tigers are 4-2 this season. They were off last week and will travel to Harleton to face the Wildcats on Friday at 7:30 p.m. The Wildcats are 5-2. They won 42-14 at Beckville last week.

Center Roughriders Stadium. Friday, October 11, 2019 –

The Center Roughriders varsity football team claimed their third straight win by defeating the Tarkington Longhorns for homecoming by a 62-42 score. The Roughriders moved their season mark to 4-3. CHS stands at 1-0 in District 9 4A action. They will enjoy a bye week and will next play on Friday, October 25, 2019 when they travel to Shepherd to face the Pirates.

Tarkington intercepted a Center pass early in Friday’s contest and turned it into a score when Blake Parish scored on a run for a touchdown which capped a 54-yard Longhorns drive. Tarkington led 7-0 with 5:59 minutes left in the first quarter.

Center bounced back with a 5-play scoring drive of their own which was finished off with a 49-yard Jakerrion Watson touchdown reception with 3:37 left in the opening stanza. Center’s extra point kick attempt was blocked so the Roughriders trailed 6-7.

Center’s defense recovered a fumble early in the second quarter. Just four plays later Jake Hanson hit Zacc Smith for the Roughriders second touchdown. A good extra point kick by Alexis Lopez gave the ‘Riders a 13-7 advantage with 10:05 left in the first half.

Tarkington went on a long scoring drive which ended with Parish scoring on his second touchdown run of the game with 5:16 left in the second quarter. THS took a 14-13 lead.

Center regained the lead when Smith caught another scoring pass in the corner of the endzone and gave CHS a 20-14 advantage with 3:58 left before halftime.

Watson scored on a 25-yard touchdown reception with less than two minutes left in the second quarter to give the Roughriders a 27-14 lead.

Tarkington answered back with a 25-yard touchdown reception by Christian Howard which cut the Longhorns deficit to 27-21 at halftime.

Red Horace added a pair of rushing touchdowns to the Roughrider’s tally early in the first half. The second score a 9-yard ‘Bullrush’ gave Center a 41-21 lead with 4:50 left in the third stanza.

The Longhorns never gave up and answered back with a 35-yard touchdown strike with 1:47 left in the third quarter to cut Center’s lead to 41:28.

Jakerrion Watson set Center up with good field position on the next drive with a great kickoff return which put the ‘Riders near the redzone close to the Tarkington 25-yard line. Hollis Polk brought down a touchdown pass from Jake Hanson to give Center a 48-28 lead before the third quarter was finished.

THS punted the ball back to Center to start the fourth quarter of play. Center wasted no time by finishing a 2-play scoring drive with a Makel Johnson touchdown reception early in the final quarter. This gave Center a 55-28 lead after another Alexis Lopez extra point kick.

Center fumbled the ball to THS with about 8 minutes left in the game. Tarkington answered and drove the ball 65 yards to the endzone where Alex Armstrong scored on a 20-yard reception which cut the CHS lead to 55-35.

Dekylin Hoyt scored the ‘Rider’s final touchdown with an 18-yard rush into the endzone with 2:23 left in the contest.

Center finished the night with 277 yards on 22 carries rushing. Kemodre “Red” Horace finished the evening leading all rushers with 235 yards on 18 carries. He scored twice. Hanson completed 13 of 17 passing attempts for 287 yards and six touchdowns. He finished the night with a 117.9 passer rating.

October 11, 2019 - The Battle of the Attoyac Canned Food Drive will be held October 11, 2019 and the winner will be announced at halftime. The food drive is sponsored by Timpson FFA and Garrison FFA. Both invite the community to bring unexpired goods and canned items to the game which starts at 7:30pm. Help your team win and at the same time help those in need!

October 10, 2019 –

Shelby County varsity football now heads to Week 7 will all teams now involved in conference games.

The Center Roughriders evened up their season record at 3-3 last week with a 59-48 road win at Brownsboro High School. This week Center will host Tarkington in their first District 9 4A battle. Tarkington beat Hardin-Jefferson 46-42 at home last week. The Tarkington Longhorns currently have a 3-2 season record. Kickoff will be at Roughriders Stadium on Friday, October 11, 2019 at 7:30 p.m.

The Joaquin Rams started out District 11 2A play two weeks ago with a 45-23 win at home. They enjoyed a bye week last Friday. The Rams are 4-1 overall and will travel to Linden-Kildare. The L-KHS Tigers are 3-4 and they last Friday as Garrison got back in the win column with a 48-14 win at Bulldogs Stadium. The Rams and Tigers will kick off at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, at Linden-Kildare Tigers Stadium.

The Shelbyville Dragons will start District 12 2A action with a game at Deweyville High School with the 4-1 Pirates. Shelbyville is 4-1 and was off last week. Two weeks ago the Dragons beat Shepherd by a 14-7 score at home. Kickoff is Friday at 7 p.m. at Pirates Stadium.

The Tenaha Tiger’s District 11 2A mark fell to 1-1 after a 35-28 homecoming loss the Beckville Bearcat. The Tigers are off on a bye week this Friday and they will next play at Harleton High School on October 18. Harleton is 4-2.

The Timpson Bears fell to the Harleton Wildcats 27-7 at Wildcats Stadium last Friday. The Bears are now 2-4 for the season and 0-2 in District 11 2A action. The Bears will host the Garrison Bulldogs on Friday at 7:30 p.m. in a ‘Battle of the Attoyac’ game.

 

October 9, 2019 - The Tenaha Junior Varsity football team will play Garrison at 6:30 in Garrison on Thursday, October 10th.

October 8, 2019 - The Center Tennis program wrapped up the Fall District Schedule last night with a 18-1 victory over the Hudson Hornets to improve their overall record to 12 wins and 1 loss as a team heading into the playoffs.

Center claims the District 20 title and the playoffs may look like the following for the Bi-District round.

District 20 (Center #1) vs District 19 (Mexia #4??)
District 20 (Hudson #2 ) vs District 19 (#3 Madisonville??)
District 20 (Carthage #3) vs District 19 (#2 Palestine??)

The Bi-District and Area rounds will be played next week.

Center vs Mexia tentatively on October 14 in Jacksonville - 4pm. More details by the end of this week.

Area - October 17th potentially vs Gatesville (District 18#3) at Madisonville.
