Representative Paddie's January 11th Capitol Update

January 11, 2019 - Last Tuesday marked the start of the 86th Texas Legislature. I am profoundly humbled and honored that you have again entrusted me to represent you in the Texas House of Representatives. 

This session started off with the first open race for Speaker of the House in recent history. While there were several contenders this past fall, shortly after the November 6th elections, Rep. Dennis Bonnen of Angleton secured the votes to become the next Speaker of the Texas House of Representatives.

July 25, 2017 - When our 150 state representatives and 31 senators arrive in Austin on the second Tuesday of January each odd numbered year, everyone knows that there is an incredible amount of work to be done in only 140 days. Now that we are through those long, hectic days I want to make certain that you are aware of legislation that has, or will in very short order, become law. This column will focus on legislation that was passed specifically to solve issues in East Texas.

Rep. Chris Paddie Capitol Update: Governor Convenes 85th Legislature Special Session

July 21, 2017 - This week was the beginning of the first called, or special, session of the 85th legislature. The Texas Constitution requires that the Legislature meet for 140 days every odd numbered year, but the governor has the authority to call 30-day special sessions for specific policy initiatives determined by the governor.

Re. Paddie Named One of Top 10 Legislators

June 23, 2017 - Rep. Chris Paddie (R-Marshall) has been named one of the Top Ten Legislators of the 85th Legislative Session by Texas Monthly.

Texas Monthly focused on Rep. Paddie's passage of a statewide regulatory framework for transportation network companies, expansion of job-creating Buy America provisions for iron and steel used in all state infrastructure projects, and his efforts to forge a compromise on the bathroom bill.

Rep. Paddie’s Statement on Special Session

June 6, 2017 - Today, Gov. Abbott announced a special legislative session, on a wide range of issues, that will convene on July 18, 2017.  Below is a statement from Rep. Chris Paddie (R-Marshall) on the upcoming special legislative session:

"While I am disappointed that we have to come back for a special session, there are unresolved issues that still face the state of Texas.  I am glad to see that Gov. Abbott included reforming school finance as the first item that he will add to the call of the special session.
