April 2015 Texas State Bank sponsored the "Seniors who Made A Difference" banquet for the 2015 graduating class of Logansport High School. It was held on April 14 at the John D Windham Civic Center in Center, Texas. Mark Ivey, President, Texas State Bank, gave the welcome to all and David Graves, Director, Texas State Bank, gave the invocation. A delicious meal was served to the six seniors chosen, as well as the teachers each student had chosen that had a made a difference in their school career, along with other school and bank officials.
Each student was then presented along with the teacher they had chosen. The students and teachers gave very emotional talks. Mark Ivey concluded the evening by asking attendees if they would like to address the group. A fun evening was enjoyed by all.
April 19, 2015 - Sassy Red's Bakery on the Center square held a ribbon cutting on Tuesday, April 14, 2015 with the Shelby County Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors on hand and members of the community to celebrate the business.
Pam Phelps, Shelby County Chamber of Commerce Executive Director, and Meg Camp, Shelby County Chamber of Commerce Ambassador President, welcomed Sassy Red's Bakery owner Cindy Lindsey.
"We're glad to be on Shelbyville Street here today at Little Fox Market Place to welcome Sassy Red's Bakery and that we've all enjoyed and continue to enjoy and will continue to spread the word of all your creations," said Phelps.
Lindsey described her bakery as a place that can provide whatever may be desired and she is trying new things all the time. She says the bakery has a regular supply of cupcakes, cookies and custom cakes are a regular thing for all occasions including weddings and birthdays.
"We are very, very glad you are here. What a wonderful fresh store to be right here on the square, and I enjoy following your Facebook page and I love to look at all the cakes and how beautiful they are," said Camp.
During the event, those who attended were able to partake of refreshments developed in the bakery. Sassy Red's Bakery is located inside Little Fox Market Place at 101 Shelbyville Street on the Center square. The bakery is open from 9am-5pm daily. April 19, 2015 - Timpson Elementary Agents for Change members presented a program on their "Random Acts of Kindness" to Delta Gamma members at their April meeting in Timpson.

April 15, 2015 - Delta Gamma Ceremonies Chairman Linda Bordelon and members Judy Adkison, Nora Robinson, Billie Bailey, and Sue Carter led other members as they celebrated Delta Gamma's 67th birthday at their April meeting in Timpson.
On April 17, 1948 the Delta Gamma Chapter began when 14 key women teachers from Sabine, San Augustine, and Shelby Counties met at the Polley Hotel in Center, Texas with Dr. Eula Lee Carter, the Texas state founder who first organized The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International.
Today this celebrated association is organized in 17 countries and represents approximately 80,000 of the world's most respected women educators. Texas boasts more than 9,000 members in nearly 300 chapters.

April 15, 2015 - Self Defense America of Shelby County had four students go to San Antonio TX, Saturday April 11, 2015 to compete in the AAU (Amateur Athletic Union) Taekwondo Event.
They competed in Poomse and Olympic Sparring.
In Photo from left to right are: Hollie Hamilton won Bronze medal for Poomse, Eric Mendoza won a Bronze in Poomse and Gold in Sparring, Ethan McElroy won a Gold in Poomse and Bronze in Sparring and Logan Galindo won two Bronze medals in Poomse and Sparring.
We are proud of the commitment these youth showed. They are a real asset to our community.
April 13, 2015 - Center's Women's Reading Club recently enjoyed a special program hosted by the Carthage Book Club at the Texas Country Music Hall of Fame in Carthage. Co- authors Lana Higginbotham and Mary Felder shared the genesis of their book, Between the Letters, the beautiful biographical account of Charles and Mary Felder's romance and life together from their chance meeting during World War II until Charles's death in 2001.
Seven Center members attended: Polly Smith, Donna Holt, Dottie West, Barbara Tyer, Sandi Sinclair, Carolyn Bounds, and Jane Morrison.

May 22, 2015 - We received our first boxes of new books bought by the Friends of the Library spring book sale proceeds. It is always like Christmas morning when we open the boxes. For those of you who wait for the dog days of summer to read, we are now well stocked. There is a good selection of mysteries, light fiction and some great romance reading for the beach. For children, Sandra selected some new series for both boys and girls. We also received the new David McCullough novel, The Wright Brothers. He tells the story of Wilbur and Orville Wright. The house they lived in had no electricity or indoor plumbing, but there were books aplenty, supplied mainly by their preacher father, and they never stopped reading. This novel is a tribute to American ingenuity and a great advertisement for the power of reading.
The Center Noon Lion’s Club summer reading program at the library is close at hand with this year’s program having live animals, magicians, puppeteers, and a special visit from the game warden and the fire department. The events begin on June 11th at 10:30 a.m. for the 4-8 year olds and at 2:00 p.m. for the 9-12 year olds. For our readers who participate for six weeks in the reading program, reading logs may be picked up at the library beginning Tuesday, June 2nd. There are great new books waiting for eager young eyes. April 10, 2015 - In April, db Metal Art and The Little Fox Marketplace sponsored an Easter Metal Art Decorating Contest. Participants creatively decorated metal crosses and eggs. Each was a unique work of art. The public was invited to choose their favorite. Everyone who voted was entered into a drawing for a store gift certificate which was won by Venorah McSwain. Winners were announced at an Open House/Reception on March 31st. Each winner received a store gift certificate.

April 10, 2015 - April is Child Abuse Prevention Month, and Shelby Savings Bank is proud to support! Our Center employees took a group picture in their blue Child Abuse Awareness t-shirts this morning, and some CASA volunteers even stopped by to be in it, too!
April 9, 2015 - The annual "Center Garden Club" Flower Show will have local artists this year. They were invited to present some of their floral paintings for the public to view. Pictured are two of these artists Christine Mahan and Gracie Stockstill. The public is invited.
