May 20, 2020 - Abigail Hooper is a 2020 recipient of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo (HLSR) Exhibitor Scholarship in the amount of $20,000. Abigail is the salutatorian of the 2020 graduating class of Joaquin High School and plans to attend Texas A&M University in the fall. She is the daughter of Jody and Whitney Hooper.

May 6, 2020 - Texas Governor Gregg Abbott's Strike Force to open Texas has setup a web page with dates businesses can open along with a link to a checklist for the business to reopen.
Businesses listed to open this Friday, May 8th include: Barber Shops, Cosmetology/Hair Salons, Nail Salons and Shops, and Tanning Salons. The checklists also give guidance to customers of all of these opening businesses.
May 8, 2020 - Swepco crews are gathered on Cora Street near the intersection of Fannin this afternoon. Around 2:15pm crews had four buckets raised to work on the power line.

Please be advised the Incidence Rate notated in the chart is not a percentage of cases in the county, however, it is an incident rate of cases per 1,000 population during this time of spread of COVID-19. The comparison chart is to demonstrate the relationship of the spread in Shelby County versus the other counties listed.
April 22, 2020 - Since 2012, the Shelby County Children's Advocacy Center has hosted a Butterfly Release during the month of April to recognize April as Child Abuse Awareness Month.
In the past the Butterfly Release has been held at 4:30pm which is why this story was posted today at this time. April 22nd was the planned day for the 2020 Butterfly release, however, COVID-19 has caused so many community events to be cancelled which is why Shelby County Today released these electronic butterflies on the Around Town page.
