March 16, 2020 - The Health and Fitness Fair has been postponed. We have communicated with a number of health care providers and we are all in agreement that it is best to postpone the Health and Fitness Fair until later in the year.
Our plans are to reschedule the Health and Fitness Fair for fall when we will be able to offer the same screenings and testing as well as offer flu shots.
We apologize for any inconvenience but the health and safety of our community is a number one priority.

March 12, 2020 - The Shelby County Children’s Advocacy Center received a grant in the amount of $25,500 from T.L.L. Temple Foundation to purchase a top quality camera and digital image storage system for our onsite forensic medical exam program. The addition of the Secure Digital Forensic Imaging (SDFI) Camera System and the SDFI Store and Send System is the latest step the SCCAC has taken in our effort to make a difficult experience easier for child victims of sexual assault.
This equipment ensures that we are capturing, preserving, and sharing evidence with investigators in the best and most secure way possible. Our nurses, who have been specifically trained to provide sexual assault forensic exams for children, recently completed training on the use of the new camera and computer system. We are grateful to T.L.L. Temple Foundation for supporting our efforts to serve the children of Shelby and San Augustine Counties.
The T.L.L. Temple Foundation works alongside families and communities to build a thriving Deep East Texas and to alleviate poverty, creating access and opportunities for all. In support of its mission, the foundation makes grants in the areas of education, economic development and community revitalization, health, human services, arts and culture, and conservation and the environment.

February 29, 2020 - Members of VFW Post 8904 and Auxiliary honored Veterans of Operation Desert Storm during a ceremony held February 28, 2020.
Larry Hume, Post Quartermaster, welcomed everyone to the event and opened with a prayer. Everyone present then recited the Pledge of Allegiance.
Hume followed with a brief history of the operation.
"As part of the Gulf War, Operation Desert Storm began on January 16, 1991. Coalition forces from 34 nations led by the United States began aerial bombardment of Iraq. This was in response to Iraq's invasion and annexation of Kuwait. A week later on January 24th, a ground assault began in the liberation of Kuwait and advancement in to Iraqi territory. Just 42 days later of relentless attacks by the Allied Coalition, in the air and on the ground, President Bush declared a cease fire on February 28, 1991 some 29 years ago. 148 Americans had died in battle and there were another 145 battle deaths and 467 wounded. From Operation Desert Storm, Shelby County has no known casualties, but we suffered some in the years that followed."

One Desert Storm Veteran was present for the event, Wade Jones, who was accompanied by his wife Tina and son Collyn.
Hanging a ceremonial wreath upon the Shelby County Veteran's Memorial was U.S. Army Veteran Robbie Hughes.
Taps was then played as presented by Gene Hutto, Post Commander.
