October 6, 2021 - I want to remind everyone that the photography exhibit will be held at the First Baptist Church Family Life Center this year. A reminder that there will be a "People's Choice" voting during the first two days only of the ETPF. So please stop in at the FBC Family Life Center and take a look at some of the beautiful photos on display and vote for your favorite photograph. You will probably recognize a few names on the photos and I am sure they would appreciate your vote.

Thank you,
Billie F. Jones
Photography Exhibit Coordinator

October 5, 2021 - A ribbon cutting event was held at The Mootique on Thursday, September 30th with Kailee Metcalf. Family and friends attended along Chamber of Commerce ambassadors to welcome Kailee to the business community.

The Mootique is a shop specializing in handmade children’s clothing, blankets, dolls and jewelry.

Stephanie Elswick, Ambassador President, introduced Kailee and welcomed her to talk about her business, “We are here for the ribbon cutting of a new business, with these adorable products, called Mootique.”

Kailee introduced herself saying she had moved here about a year ago, however, her husband Luke was born and raised here and they have five children, all girls. “My business started kind of as an extension of my mom’s business; she owns a t-shirt business. She does vinyl products and she wanted to start selling children’s products too. And I kind of took that and ran with it, so now I own my own business. The Mootique is kind of like a play on words with my last name… we are the Metcalfs.” She continued, “I’m very blessed to be able to do this with my biggest supporter (husband Luke). He always says he’s my biggest fan. So, without him and my mother-in-law, Mrs. Collette back there, she made this possible too by allowing me to be here… So, I’m very grateful that you all come out today to support my business. Thank you so much.”

Her husband Luke added jokingly, “Yeah, support it all the way so that I can retire.”

Kailee invited everyone to join her Facebook page The Mootique VIP. The Mootique is located at 506 FM 2788, Center, Texas. Kailee sews and keeps in stock clothes for up to 12-year-olds. She does take custom orders as well which can be for anyone, any size. In stock she has bows, homemade blankets, jewelry, and other accessories.

Kailee plans to reveal her Thanksgiving line of clothing in October! Coming soon!

September 29, 2021 - The Fannie Brown Booth Memorial Library has books, videos, and audiobooks for people of all ages but the library staff is especially proud of the many selections for children. Recently Sharisse McAdams brought her two daughters Aryn and Sullivan to the library as an after school outing. The girls spent time in the children's nook of the library looking for books to check out and spent time at the children's table looking over their selections. Librarians Sandra Davis and Shawn Lowater helped the girls make their selections and helped the girls check out their books using their library cards. The girls had an enjoyable time at the library and even got to meet and have their picture made with Hamingway the pig!

Taking children to the library gives children an opportunity choose books for their own reading pleasure or having their parents read to them. Early reading is an important way to help children develop early reading skills which is essential to ensure their success in school and in life.

Sullivan also enjoyed attending Story Time at the library this past week with her "Lele" Lisa McAdams. Story Time is open to all children and their parents or other adults every Wednesday at 10:30 in the Redditt room. Mrs. Davis reads a book to the children and has a craft activity which the children enjoy.

September 28, 2021 - The Fannie Brown Booth Library will host a Genealogy Lineage Workshop on Tuesday, September 28, 2021, 1pm to 4pm. The Ladies from the Daughters of the Republic of Texas will be leading the workshop.

September 28, 2021 - Only 10 days left until the 45th Annual East Texas Poultry Festival, sponsored by Farmers State Bank, opens its gates to a weekend of fun, entertainment, arts and crafts and lots of food back on the downtown square!

The Cutting of the Feathers will be held on Thursday, October 7th at 10:00am on the Frances Oates Center Stage! We are looking forward to having the school children back on stage to sing.

All three days, the entertainment stage will be busy with school groups, dancing groups and singing groups. Of course there will be the Wing Eating Contest, the Chicken Clucking Contest, Lion Club vehicle drawing and the Broiler Auction. New this year will be the Ag/Mechanic auction. Our Shelby County ag/mechanic students will auction their items.

The 5K Chicken Trot and Fun Run, sponsored by Axley and Rode will be held on Saturday morning, October 9, at Portacool Park. The Trot starts at 7:30a.m. Proceeds will go the area United Way. The Car Show starts at 10am on the downtown square.

The 2021 East Texas Poultry Festival Queen will be crowned on October 2nd at 7:00pm at Center High School. The Queen and her Court shall reign over the Festival.

So mark your calendars for October 7th, 8th and 9th. See you at the Festival!!
