Shelby County Extension Invites Community to “Cooking Well with Friends: Let’s Meal Prep Together!”
May 6, 2026 - Everyone talks about eating healthy and meal prepping—but what does that really look like in the middle of busy, everyday life? The Shelby County Extension Office is excited to help community members take the guesswork out of healthy eating with a new hands-on program designed for learning, connection, and delicious results.
Introducing: Cooking With Friends — A Community Meal Prep Experience
For a low cost of $25, participants will receive the week’s recipes ahead of time along with a complete ingredient list to purchase and bring to the session (Optional). This small fee helps ensure that all participants arrive prepared and ready to fully engage in the meal-prepping experience.
On the day of the session, participants can gather to prepare meals on-site. The Shelby County Extension Office will provide:
• Recipe cards
• Seasonings
• Food-safe bags or containers
• Step-by-step guidance and demonstrations
• Samples of featured recipes so participants can taste before cooking at home
“We want to show the community that healthy eating doesn’t have to be complicated or expensive,” said Feleshia Thompson, County Extension Agent. “Meal prepping saves time, reduces stress, and helps families make healthier choices. And doing it together makes the process fun, supportive, and enjoyable.”
Whether you’re new to meal prepping or simply looking for fresh ideas, this program is ideal for individuals, families, and friends of all skill levels. Participants will learn simple techniques, enjoy tasty recipes, and leave with meals ready for the week ahead.
