2015 Tenaha Holiday Hoops Bounds Into Action

December 29, 2015 - The Joaquin Varsity Boy's basketball team kicked off their 2015 Tenaha Holiday Hoops Basketball Tournament action with a 57-48 win over the Hughes Springs Mustangs on Monday at Ram's Gymnasium. The game was close until near the end of the fourth stanza. The Rams carried a 39-34 lead into the fourth period. Elazar Huerta hit an early jumper in the final period to boost the JHS lead to 41-34. A Tray Wilkerson 3-pointer, with three and a half minutes remaining in the game, gave Joaquin a 10-point lead at 49-39.

Two Hughes Springs 3-pointers pulled them to within six points of Joaquin with just 1:23 left to play. Joaquin's Justin Hooper and Peyton Martinez each hit clutch free-throws in the later moments of the game to seal the opening round win. Later in the day, Joaquin lost to Schulenburg and the Rams moved to the consolation bracket of the tourney where they face the Broaddus Bulldogs Tuesday, December 29 at 8:30 am.

The Tenaha Tiger Girl's Varsity basketball team found themselves with a comfortable 41-11 lead at halftime in their first round Holiday Hoops game against the Kountze Lady Lions at Tenaha's SEC on Monday. Tenaha used scores by seven different players in the third period to extend their lead to 58-18 going into the final frame.

A Keanya Davis 3-pointer with 5.5 minutes left in the game gave THS a 62-19 lead. Tenaha cruised the rest of the way while gaining a 67-26 win. The Lady Tigers will play Winnsboro at 8:30 am Tuesday at the THS SEC.

The Joaquin Lady Rams Varsity basketball team had no answer for the Martin's Mill lady Mustangs on Monday. Joaquin trailed 32-52 at the end of the third period and eventually fell to the Lady Mustangs by a 72-38 final score at Joaquin's Rams Gymnasium. The Lady Rams rebounded later in the day to beat the Sabine Lady Cardinals by a 48-42 score, at Tenaha's Tiger Gymnasium, to advance to their second consolation round game at 11:30 am at Joaquin's Ram Gym on Tuesday.

The Tenaha Tigers Varsity basketball team won a pair of Holiday Hoops games on Monday. The Tigers beat the Garrison Bulldogs 71-51 in opening round action, and won an explosive 96-89 second-round thriller over the Laneville Yellowjackets Monday night. The second win sent the Tigers to the semifinal round game at 4 pm on Tuesday at the Tenaha SEC. The Tigers and Yellowjackets were tied at 47 points at halftime. At the end of the third period THS had a narrow two point advantage. Colton Goeke and JaQualin Franks teamed up for key scores late in the game which helped THS extend their lead and capture the win.
