March 10, 2026 - (Show Photo Album, Sale Photo Album) - The Shelby County 4-H & FFA Livestock Show took place the week of March 2 through March 7, 2026, kicking off with the 3rd annual Shelby County 4-H & FFA Commercial Heifer Show.
The event began on March 2 with the third annual Commercial Heifer Show at Center Livestock Auction, where twenty-four exhibitors checked in forty-eight heifers. Mac Soules and Jimmy Arp judged the cattle. In addition to their cattle, exhibitors are also judged on an interview and record book about how they care for their cattle. On Wednesday, March 4, the heifers were auctioned off at Center Livestock Auction to the highest bidders. The sale barn was filled with buyers eager to support local youth, generating a total of $110,000.
The Speaking Contest, now in its fourth year, was held on Tuesday, March 3rd, as part of the Shelby County Livestock Show. This public speaking competition, open to all FFA and 4-H members, focuses on agricultural topics and continues to grow each year.
On Thursday, March 5th, the Shelby County Livestock Show took place at the Sheriff’s Posse Rodeo Arena, featuring over 100 exhibitors. The market animal weigh-in began at 7:30 a.m., and the show officially started at 10:00 a.m. with rabbits, judged by Mrs. April Cade. Derrick Brown evaluated lambs, goats, swine, and cattle, providing valuable insights while actively engaging with the youth and their animals.
The Buyers' Appreciation Dinner and Livestock Auction was held on Saturday, March 7th, at the John Dean Windham Civic Center. The livestock auction premium generated just over $113,986 for local 4-H and FFA members, according to Lane Dunn, County Extension Agent.
A special thank you goes out to all contributors and bidders for making this year’s auction our most successful yet!
The following are the results of the show and auction:
