June 13, 2025 - I well remember some years ago, a well meaning lady telling me, “Tim, you are so tied up with rules and commandments, you just miss the whole point of loving the Lord.” Her statement reflects a popular idea in our culture. There is the idea that we just need to love the Lord and not worry about keeping any commandments. Yet, often you hear me say or write that we need to live our lives within the will of God and live according to what God has commanded us.
It must be remembered that Jesus said in John 14:15, “If you love me, you will keep my commandments”. You see, living God’s kind of life, living the way Jesus wants us to live, doing what the Lord tells us to do is important. When Jesus turned the water into wine at the marriage feast in Cana of Galilee, Mary told the servants, “whatsoever he saith unto you, do it” (John 2:5)
If we want to go to heaven it is imperative that we do the will of God. Remember the words of Jesus in Matthew 7:21, “Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.” That simple statement from the lips of Jesus should forever impress upon all of us the importance of living God’s kind of life, living as God has commanded.
It’s something to think about... tbp
