Angelina and Neches River Authority announces New Communications Director

February 25, 2020 - Lufkin, TX – The Angelina & Neches River Authority (ANRA) today announced an addition to the Lufkin office, hiring Kimberly Squyres Wagner as the new Communications Director. “At a time of unprecedented growth, Wagner joins the ANRA team to help ANRA fulfill its mission and mandate,” Kelley Holcombe, ANRA’s general manager said.

The mission of ANRA is to conserve, store, control, preserve, use, and distribute the storm water, floodwater and the water of the rivers and streams of the state in the Neches River Basin for the benefit of the human environment and the natural environment.

“Many people have heard of ANRA, but unfortunately, they don’t understand what ANRA is or what it does. My role is to create awareness of the public services ANRA provides, which benefit everyone within the Neches River basin. I’m thrilled to be a part of the team,” Wagner said.

Wagner spent the last 10 years as a communications lecturer and director of the speech and debate program at Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, Texas. She was awarded Adjunct Professor of the Year in 2011 and led the debate team to national and international success.

An environmentally-conscious advocate, Wagner has served on the board of directors for Angelina Beautiful/Clean and Keep Tyler Beautiful. She was an integral part of Keep Tyler Beautiful receiving the Governor’s Community Achievement Award in 2008.

Wagner graduated with a bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of North Texas and a master’s degree in communication from Stephen F. Austin State University. She was inducted into Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges and Omicron Delta Kappa, a national leadership society.

Raised in Lufkin, Texas, Wagner is an avid outdoor enthusiast, who enjoys horseback riding, kayaking, hiking, and taking her three dogs on adventures.

ANRA’s territorial jurisdiction consists of 8,500 square miles that lie wholly or in part of the following counties: Van Zandt, Smith, Henderson, Newton, Cherokee, Anderson, Rusk, Houston, Nacogdoches, San Augustine, Shelby, Angelina, Trinity, Sabine, Polk, Jasper, and Orange. ANRA focuses on water quality management, water resource development, and water conservation resources.
