Arthur Horton to Be Topic of TAGHS Talk

September 15, 2016 - For almost three-quarters of a century, Arthur Horton was one of Timpson's leading citizens. He called Timpson home all his life and when he died in 2000 he was remembered as a respected athlete, veteran, businessman, and church and civic leader.

Horton excelled in track and field at Timpson High School, winning events at the State Meet, and football, receiving a college scholarship. Horton saw rugged action as a soldier during WWII, earning decorations for valor.

Returning home, he and his wife Irene Bailey Horton raised a family in Timpson and he was ordained as a deacon for the First Baptist Church in 1948. The former owner of Horton Insurance, he served as President of the Chamber of Commerce as well as Timpson Mayor.

Arthur Horton's son, Barry Horton, and his grand-daughter, Sheila Horton Barrett will share photos and recollections of  Arthur Horton with members and guests at this month's Timpson Area Genealogy and Heritage Society next Wednesday, September 21 at 2PM in the Timpson Public Library on the corner of Austin and Bremond Streets. As always, the public is cordially invited to attend.
