Bears, Lady Bears Take District Wins at Joaquin

The Timpson Bears and Lady Bears travelled to Joaquin High School on Friday to compete in District 22 2A varsity and sub-varsity games.

The Timpson Lady Bears wasted no time in starting to build a lead as they led 10-4 midway through the first period and 17-9 by the buzzer which signaled the end of the first stanza. By the midway intermission, Timpson held a twenty-point advantage with a 34-14 lead. The third period ended with the Lady Bears ahead 48-21 on their way to taking a 59-28 final score win.

The Lady Rams were led by JJ Bass with 8 points. High scorers for Timpson were Harlie Ware with 18 points and Brylee Behrens with 16.

Timpson is atop the District 22 leader board with an 8-1 conference mark. They have a 22-6 overall record with five regular season games remaining. They have clinch one of four playoff spots.

Joaquins’ district season mark falls to 2-14 and they will next travel to Tenaha on Tuesday, January 28, 2020. Sub-varsity action will start at 4:30 p.m.

The Joaquin Rams boy’s varsity team fell to Timpson by a 59-36 score. The Rams gained a 11-9 lead by the end of the first quarter of play. Timpson overtook Joaquin in the second quarter by outscoring JHS by a 3-16 point differential. The Bears took a 25-14 lead into the midway break.

Timpson was able to extend their lead slightly to 37-25 by the end of the third period. They outscored Joaquin 22-11 in the fourth quarter to take the 59-36 win.

The Bears were led by Braden Courtney with 19 points. The Rams were led by Lorenzo Lane with 10 points.

The Bears have a 2-4 District 22 2A mark and are in fifth place trailing Shelbyville, Tenaha, Woden and San Augustine. Their playoff dreams are still very much alive with seven conference games remaining.
