Bears Outlast Bearcats for 42-21 Region III Semifinal Win at SFA

The Timpson Bears varsity football team won 42-21 over the Beckville Bearcats in a Texas UIL Region III Semifinal Elimination game on Friday. The Bears remain unbeaten with a 11-0 record. Timpson came in as the winner of District 10 2A-1 and Beckville (11-1) was the unbeaten representative of District 11 2A-1.

Beckville drove 76 yards on a 14-play scoring drive which saw senior quarterback Ryan Harris cap the drive with a 1-yard keeper run for a touchdown. Junior kicker Jayden Mojica kicked the extra point and BHS took a 7-0 lead with 3:23 left in the first quarter.

The Bears answered just four plays later for a 47-yard quarterback keeper for a touchdown by sophomore Terry Bussey with 2:10 still left in the opening stanza. Senior Logan Depaepe added an extra point kick to tie the game at 7-7. Depaepe eventually went a perfect 6 for 6 on extra point conversion kicks for the night.

Depaepe recovered a Bearcat’s fumble with just 26 seconds left in the opening frame and THS took over at the Bearcats 31-yard line. With 11:23 left in the second quarter, senior runningback Braden Courtney scored on a 12-yard touchdown run which gave Timpson their first lead at 14-7.

The Bears went up 21-7 when Bussey scored on a 12-yard keeper touchdown run with 3:33 left in the first half.

Beckville answered back with a score by senior Tyler Bryan with just 5 seconds remaining before halftime. The teams went into the midway intermission with Timpson ahead 21-14.

Harris scored his second touchdown with 9:25 left in the third period to tie the game 21-21. This would prove to be BHS’s final score of the contest.

Timpson was able to gain their next lead at 28-21 when Courtney scored on a 2-yard run with 6:41 left in the third frame. The Bears extended their lead to 35-21 with a 24-yard keeper for a touch by Bussey with 3:35 still left in the third quarter. Senior Bears receiver Hunter Tipton scored the game’s final touchdown with a 26-yard reception with 3:17 left in the final period. Moments later, Vosky Howard intercepted a Bearcat's pass and Timpson took the 42-21 elimination win.

The Bears will next face the Centerville Tigers (12-1) in a Region III Final/ State Quarterfinal elimination game at Jacksonville's Tomato Bowl on Friday, December 3, 2021 at 7 p.m. Centerville defeated Holland 28-0. According to Maxpreps, Centerville is ranked #9 and Timpson is #2 in Class 2A-1 Football.
