Bears Take Varsity Football Win over Booneville Bearcats 57-40

The Timpson Bears varsity football team improved their 2021 season record to 4-0 with a convincing 57-40 win over the visiting Booneville, Arkansas Bearcats (4-1).

Senior Braden Courtney had a big night and he kicked off the game’s scoring, breaking the ice with a 16-yard touchdown run with 7:30 minutes remaining in the first quarter. Logan Depaepe kicked the extra point and THS took a 7-0 lead early.

Booneville scored on a 3-yard touchdown with 2:57 left in the opening stanza, but failed on an extra point attempt, and trailed Timpson 7-6.

Bear Terry Bussey busted loose on the ensuing kickoff and raced 71 yards for a Timpson touchdown which gave THS a 14-6 lead with 2:47 left in the opening period of play.

Bussey scored again on a 24-yard keeper run for a touchdown with 10:53 left in the second quarter to help give the Bears a 21-6 advantage.

Rylan Ray broke free for a Bearcats score which cut Timpson’s lead to 21-12 with 9:12 left in the first half.

The fireworks were not over as each team scored once more before halftime. Timpson took a 28-12 advantage into the lockerroom at the midway break.

The Bearcats kept fighting and cut Timpson’s lead to 10 points by the end of the third frame. The fourth period started with THS up 42-32.

Courtney and Bussey each added to their scoring tallies with touchdowns in the final period while the Bears defense stiffened and held the Bearcats to a single score during the final quarter.

The Bears will host the Garrison Bulldogs next Friday, October 8, 2021 for each team’s first District 10 2A-1 opener which kicks off at 7:30 p.m.
