The Timpson Bears took a non-district win during their season opener by defeating the visiting Frankston Indians by a commanding 68-24 score on Friday.

The game was close early and tied at 6-6 by the end of the first quarter. Braden Courtney gave THS a 12-6 lead when he broke free early in the second period for a 12-yard touchdown run. He scored again with 4:01 left in the first half to help boost the Bears lead to 19-6.

Bears quarterback Terry Bussey added a 52-yard keeper run for a score with 1:39 left in the second quarter and THS led 25-6 after a Logan Depaepe extra point kick.

Bussey added another long touchdown run early in the third period and Timpson led 31-6 but the Indians answered back moments later with a 32-yard keeper touchdown run by Brink Bizzell. This cut Timpson’s lead to 31-12. Courtney added two more touchdowns and a fumbled Indian’s extra point attempt return for a 100-yard 2-point conversion score to his resume in the third period as well. Timpson took a 61-18 lead into the fourth period and never looked back from that point of the contest.

The Bears will next travel to Alto High School for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff at Yellowjackets Stadium on Friday September 4, 2020. Alto lost to Troup High School by a 27-0 margin this week.
