Burrows Trust Funds Ag Department Project

March 22, 2018 - Don Burrows, Jr., funded Penny Ramsey’s project for an Aquaphonics growing system for the ag shop on December 17th, 2017.  Mr. Don Burrows, Jr. is a trustee of The Don & Jo Ann Burrows Trust.  His parents have been a great part of the Timpson area, serving on many committees.  

Donald T Burrows passed away Thursday June 15, 2017. Don was a father, husband, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great grandfather, banker, community leader, mentor and friend to many. He was born in Nacogdoches, Texas on May 29, 1937. He was proud to be a 5th generation Texan. He attended Nacogdoches schools, Kilgore College and is a graduate of the School of Banking of the South at Louisiana State University. 

Don spent most of his professional career as a banker on Galveston Island. He began his career as a collector for GMAC then became a loan officer at Moody National Bank before moving to First Hutchings Sealy National Bank as a Vice President and loan officer. He finished his Galveston career as Chairman of the Board and CEO of American Bank. While in Galveston he was a member of the Optimist Club, Lions Club, Galveston Planning Commission, Galveston Historical Commission, board of trustees at O'Connell High School and he and Jo Ann served as Captains of the Treasure Ball. He also was proud of the fact that he gave many of the young people of Galveston their first job and also taught them the values of good credit, making many of them their very first loans. 

For many years he came in to O'Connell Junior High School and gave students a brief lesson on "Money & Banking." After his children completed their high school educations he moved back to East Texas to the family farm. He became President of First State Bank in Timpson (Austin Bank) where he completed his banking career. He served as a member of the Timpson City Council, President of the Timpson Chamber of Commerce, volunteered at the annual Frontiers Day Festival and loved his community and the people in it. He & Jo Ann were also personally active in restoring many of the old buildings on the Timpson Town Square.

Mrs. Jo Ann Burrows, 77, of Timpson, Texas passed away Saturday, Nov. 29, 2014. She was  mother, wife, grandmother and great-grandmother and matriarch of her growing family. Born January 18, 1937, in Galveston, Texas. She graduated from Dominican High School in Galveston, and she and Donald T. Burrows were married May 30, 1958, in Texas City, Texas. 

Jo Ann was a banker and retired as vice president of Austin Bank, Timpson. She served for many years as treasurer of Timpson Chamber of Commerce and was very active in the Timpson Community. Her and Don owned and operated Brinson’s on The Square in Timpson for many years where she enjoyed visiting with her customers and bringing the latest in women’s fashions from the Market in Dallas to her boutique on Bremond Street in Timpson. Jo Ann and Don had three children, Cindy, Terri and Don, Jr. (Bubba).

Don & Jo Ann have 10 grandchildren, three of which (Heather Hudman Baker, Brittany Hudman Dupree and Kaela Hudman) attended and graduated from Timpson ISD. Kaela Hundman was the Valedictorian of the Timpson High School class of  2015.

The Don & Jo Ann Burrows Memorial Fund is administered by the Don & Jo Ann Burrows Trust. The mission of the fund is to provide financial support for Timpson ISD and further the education thru the funding of projects for students of Timpson ISD.  

I am so grateful that Don Burrows Jr. chose to help fund our project for the hydrophonis growing system.  The system has come in and Mr. Harriston has put it together in the Ag Departments greenhouse.  Thank you so very much.  This will help our students so much in the upcoming months and years.
