A Busy Spring for Shelby County 4-H (Updated)

San Antonio Livestock Judging Teams

April 5, 2019 - Shelby County 4-H has been extremely busy this winter and spring. January kicked off the show season at the major shows with the Fort Worth Livestock Show. Shelby County was well represented at the Heifer Show starting with Hannah Wages reserving the Horned Hereford Calf Division. Camille Greer placed first in class with her Charolais heifer. Abi Hooper presented her Beefmaster heifer and received a second place. Tucker Gamble finished third with his Angus heifer. Alison Gamble placed fifth with her Angus heifer. Wesley Wages participated with his Polled heifer in a very tough class.

Abi Hooper was very busy at her next stop in San Angelo. She won her class then placed reserve calf division with one heifer and won her class with her next Beefmaster heifer.

San Antonio Heifer Show was good to Allison Gamble and her Angus winning her class. Tucker Gamble placed third with his Angus. Abi Hooper’s Beefmaster heifer placed fourth. Wesley and Hannah Wages also participated at the Heifer Show. We also had two teams participate in the livestock judging. Team members are Hannah Wages, Camille Greer, Allison Gamble, Garrett Saenz, Wesley Wages and Tucker Gamble.

Eli Bush with his 19th place broilers at Houston Livestock Show

The Houston Livestock Show was a very busy show for our 4-H members. Eli Bush took his broilers and placed nineteenth in the pullet show making the sale. The Heifer Show followed with Camille Greer leading our pack by placing first in class and then winning the heifer calf division at the Charolais Show. Tucker placed second with this Angus heifer. Hannah Wages placed fourth with her horned heifer. Allison Gamble finished fifth in her Angus class. Abi Hooper was sixth in her Beefmaster Class. Wesley Wages finished in the top one-third of a very large class of polled Herefords. Livestock judging was next on the agenda for our 4-H members participating. Team members are Ali Kimbro, Baylor Kimbro, Tucker Gamble, Allison Gamble, Garrett Saenz, Cale Cornelius, Wesley Wages, Hannah Wages and Camille Greer. Baylor Kimbro took his steer to Houston and participated in a very large class of American Breed Cross steers.

Austin Livestock Show was the last major show of the season. Shelby County had a very successful Austin Show with members participating in the Steer and Heifer shows along with Livestock Judging. Baylor Kimbro presented his light weight American Breeds Cross steer placing third, making the sale. Tucker Gamble placed second with his Angus heifer and Allison Gamble placed fifth with her Hereford heifer. Camille Greer had a very good show, reserving Charolais Calf Division and placing second with her older heifer. Abi Hooper took two Beefmaster heifers. She won her class with one and finished second with the other. While the parents were waiting in line to unload the heifers, the 4-H members took this opportunity to participate in the Livestock Judging. All three teams continued to improve their scores at each event.
