Center FFA Participates in Texas FFA Leadership Development Event

December 8, 2015 Center, Texas – Members of the Center FFA Chapter traveled to Huntsville, Friday, December 4, to compete in Texas FFA’s Leadership Career Development Event.

Center’s Junior Creed Speaker, Maddie Russell, and Senior Creed Speaker, Whitlee Reed, qualified for the state competition by finishing first or second in one of the state’s 57 district competitions and first in one of ten area competitions. A total of 5,973 entries began the statewide-tournament in 13 different events which reflect classroom instruction in basic leadership skills.

Maddie finished 6th in Junior Creed Speaking out of 689 competitors that began the journey to state at the district level. Whitlee placed 12th in Senior Creed Speaking out of 766 across the state. This is a HUGE accomplishment! Unlike sports and UIL, FFA does not break down districts by school size. These girls completed against all schools no matter their size!

These ladies have worked incredibly hard. Teachers train students for their entire career and never make it to the state level and I was blessed enough to take two in one year! Proud is an understatement. If you get a chance to talk to them please congratulate them on their HUGE SUCCESS! Ask them about their experiences learning and reciting the Creed.

The Texas FFA is the nation’s largest state FFA association with a membership of more than 113,000 members. FFA programs teach skills in leadership, career development and personal growth. FFA gives students the opportunity to practically apply classroom knowledge to real-world experiences through local, state and national competitions.

Sam Houston State University has partnered with Texas FFA in hosting these competitions for 80 years
