Center FFA State Bound

April 13, 2015 - Over the past week, the Center FFA has traveled across the state representing our school at the our Area Career Development Events. Our Area (which spans from the state Louisiana line- out to Buffalo and from Timpson down to Sheppard and includes over 200 schools.) Competitions are not broken down by "school size," in FFA events all schools compete all together. Below are the results- we are VERY proud! Our students have devoted hours of hard work to these teams.

Veterinary Technician:

Wednesday April 8th Casey Knippers, Rylee Morris, Kimberly Rodgriquez, Tory Davis and Tarsheanna Bauer traveled to Tarleton State University in Stephenville Texas to compete at the Area Veterinary Technician Contest. In the contest the team has a written test, they identified animal breeds, vet tools, animal disease and organs and they had a hands on skill to perform.

This is the first year for Center FFA to be represented in this contest! The girls placed 1st in the District and 4th in the Area and will be advancing to the State competition at Texas A&M on May 2nd.

Floral Design:

Andres Leon, Santiago Leon, and Gaby Castaneda traveled with the FFA teams to Sam Houston State University to compete in the Area 9 Floriculture contest. Competition was steap as they faced 32 teams and 120 individuals from across the Area.

Individual results are as follows:

  • Andres Leon - High point individual out of 120 students. He beat everyone by 43 points (That's amazing stuff)
  • Santiago Leon - 10th High Individual out of 120 students.
  • Gaby Castaneda - 33rd High Individual out of 120 students.
  • Team placings are as follows: (Team placings come from adding 3 individual scores and seeing where they "line up")
  • District Standings - 1st Place
  • Area Placings - 4th Place and from this the advanced to the State competition on May 1st at Sam Houston State University.

Livestoch Judging:

Alec Lucas, Kamden Lucas, Konner Windham, Whitlee Reed and Megan Dunn make up the Center FFA livestock Judging team. The team members rank livestock animals (cattle, sheep, goats and swine) on market values, breeding purposes, using observed physical characteristics and performance data, as well as, take a written exam.

Whitlee Reed lead them with a top 10 finish at the contest out of 231 competitors. Wow. The team finished 1st in the district and 6th in the area. Landing them a stop in at the State Contest at Texas A&M on May 2nd.

These students worked extremely hard and are excited about their accomplishments! If you see them, give them a pat on the back.
