March 31, 2021 - Seniors Autumn Hughes, Joshua Clark, Ella Shires and Kayden Davis recently designed and constructed a display at Center High School to bring awareness of the effects of drowsy, drunk and distracted driving, for all to see. The students were tasked with the assignment, in an effort to win a grant from the Texas Department of Transportation, for their upcoming Project Graduation Celebration.
Annually, Texas Department of Transportation awards mini-grants or “seed money” to help sponsor Project Graduation events. The funds can be used for prom or graduation activities that focus on drug and alcohol-free fun. Designed and constructed by these four seniors, they took advantage of the task at hand and came up with quite the detailed depiction of students driving while texting and eating. They provided statistics in the details of their display.
The display has made a huge impact on the students of Center High School. Over the past year, students have had vehicle accidents due to distracted driving. Stories have been shared by students, making friends aware of the dangers. Several teachers have commented on how “true to life” these scenarios are. We salute the time and effort Autumn, Joshua, Ella and Kayden put into making this display. It is our hope that the information provided in such an eye-catching manner will prevent future accidents within our CHS family.
