Center ISD Monitoring Outbreak

March 13, 2020  - To the Center ISD School Community,

Center ISD is committed to taking the necessary actions to help protect the health and safety of our community, students, and staff as we continue to monitor the evolving situation related to the Coronavirus (COVID-19). We are actively monitoring the outbreak by staying in constant communication with local officials, the Texas Education Agency (TEA), the CDC, and other state agencies. As a district we have discussed our current situation and options should this continue to escalate. While there are no reported cases in our immediate area, we are prepared to put additional measures in place should the need arise.

At this time, however, we are not considering closing Center ISD unless we are mandated to do so. We believe our schools are safe, clean, disinfected, and provide a stable environment for our students. Our custodial service is cleaning/disinfecting frequently touched objects and surfaces on a daily basis using the Clorox Total 360 cleaning system. At each campus we are encouraging/requiring our students to wash their hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water is not available, then they can use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer. They are reminded to not touch their eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands. Every staff member is monitoring our students for signs of respiratory issues, fever, etc, and the campus nurse will screen students as necessary.

We understand everyone's concern regarding the Coronavirus but be assured CISD will continue to coordinate prevention efforts with state and local agencies and we will monitor the situation and prepare to put additional measures in place should the need arise. Also, CISD will provide updates to our school community as it becomes necessary.

Thank you for you cooperation and understanding with this issue, and as always, we appreciate your support.

Sincerely,
Arnie Kelley
Interim Superintendent Center ISD
