Center Lady Roughriders Fall to Hudson 47-42 in First District 17 Basketball Showdown

The Center Lady Roughriders varsity basketball team hosted the Hudson Lady Hornets in each team’s District 17 4A conference opener on Friday. The Lady Hornets were able to jump out to a 7-0 point lead by the midway point of the first period but, the Lady Roughriders came back to cut the Hudson lead to just 7-6 by the end of the first quarter.

The Lady Hornets went on an 8-0 scoring run early in the second frame and they led 15-6 at the midway point of the second stanza. HHS took a 18-13 lead into the halftime intermission. The end of the third quarter saw Hudson still holding a 32-25 point advantage.

In the fourth frame CHS cut the Lady Hornet’s lead to just 32-30 early but Hudson was able to go on another run to lead 39-32 midway through the final period. Hudson ultimately hung on for the 47-42 conference win. The Lady Hornets hold a 9-13 season mark and a 1-0 District 17 record.

Laiya Robinson led the Lady Hornets with 15 points and teammate Payton Evans scored 12. Senior 'Rider Edneeuna Barnes led Center with 13 points and senior Kylie Hubbard scored 10. Freshman Jada Smith and sophomore Raydiance Lister each scored eight points apiece.

The Lady Roughriders hold a 4-11 season mark and a 0-1 District 17 4A record. They will next have another conference game at Madisonville High School on Tuesday, January 7, 2025 with the 10-8 Lady Mustangs.
