Center Lady Roughriders Send Three Athletes to Texas State Track Meet

The Center Lady Roughriders Varsity Track Team will soon have three athletes headed to the Texas 2022 UIL Track & Field State Meet which will be held May 12-14 at Mike A. Myers Stadium on The University of Texas at Austin campus.

Senior Mahalia Ratcliff will be making a back-to-back return appearance and looking to bring home a medal in the hurdles. She stated, “My goal is to run a 44 second flat time and to be on the podium!”

Senior Aniyah Boykins will be the first Lady Roughrider thrower at the meet since 1985. She will be competing in the shot put after missing the qualification throw distance for the discus by a single inch. She said, “My goal is to beat my personal record by throwing 40 feet.”

Junior Kaylee Cox will compete in the 100M sprint. She stated, “My goal is to run a 12 second time or close to 12. I just hope to do the best that I can for my first trip to state.”

The Roughrider track program is overseen by Head Girls and Boys Coach John Huffstetler. Head Girls Track Coach Jamal Kennedy said, “I expect our girls to get on the track and compete as hard as they can, just like they’ve done all year. They have put in a lot of hard work and are capable of winning.”

Assistant Coach Leann Lusk will accompany the team as well on this trip and is a vital part of the program.
