MSMS group in front of Buccees.
May 7, 2025 - This past week My Sister Myself (MSMS), an organization of 8th grade girls at Center Middle School, spent the weekend in San Antonio. After 7 years of traveling to Houston’s NASA Space Center, the streak was broken by going to Sea World, The Alamo and the famous San Antonio Riverwalk. We left school on Thursday, making stops at Buccees in Madisonville and Lulling. On Friday, we spent the day at Seaworld before heading back to the hotel for an evening of swimming and fun.
But as we have for the previous 7 years, volunteering at the Houston Food Bank, the girls still managed to “Give Back” by volunteering at the San Antonio Food Bank on Saturday morning. From there, we traveled downtown, spent time at the Historic San Antonio Mexican Market, where the girls ate lunch, shopped for souvenirs and enjoyed Fiesta weekend activities. Afterwards, they walked over to the “Alamo” where they participated in a scavenger hunt which taught them a lot about Texas History. After a 10 minute break, we walked about a half mile to the San Antonio Riverwalk and took a guided boat tour on the Riverwalk and learned even more history about Texas and San Antonio. To close out the educational part of this year’s trip, the girls went shopping at the River Center Mall on the Riverwalk and then headed back to the hotel for a good night’s sleep after a long day of walking. On Sunday we returned home but not before making one last stop at Buccees of course.
This year's trip was made possible thanks in part, once again to our generous citizens of Shelby County donating to 1 or both of the 2 roadblocks we had on the square in November and March. These were our only fundraising efforts. Shelby County YOU ROCK!
It is with profound gratitude that we take this opportunity to thank some very special people for their help going above and beyond to make each girl's trip a memorable one, either working the roadblocks, donating cash so all girls would have spending money, or donating snacks for the bus and hotel rooms.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts to - Christy Mahan, Sommer Herndon, Michael Cloudy, Beth Harrington, Kim Umbrell, Haley White, Mac and Jessica Gurley, Gladys Andrews, Monique Evans, Michael Elswick, Kathy Massey, April Flores, Michael McIlrath, and Mrs. Jennifer Tomlin and Ashley Wulf.
We want to extend a great big thank you to Mr. Marlin Cloudy who sponsored our boat tour and to Dr. Morris for giving us this awesome opportunity.
