Center MS Students Compete at Innovative Inventions, Showcase April 28th

April 11, 2015 - Thirty four Center Middle School GT students traveled to Kilgore on Monday, April 6 to compete at Innovative Inventions.

First place winners Alec Dykes, and Nan Cii.Students spent the last several weeks preparing for the competition. They had to brainstorm many products that could use improvement, create a working prototype, prepare a display board with all of their research and information, and compile a notebook that contained all of their brainstorming and research. At the competition, they presented their new product to the judges in a convention type setting. In addition to their invention being judged, students were given a task to complete. They were allotted an hour to draft a contraption showing the process of a mouse changing a light bulb using multiple specific objects and at least 15 steps. The students did an excellent job representing our campus and Center ISD. Our campus brought home 8 awards, including:

  • Nan Cii and Alec Dykes - 1st place for Effective Display for “The Dream Note” (A notebook, sharpener, dry erase board, pencil pouch combination)
  • Kamryn Holt and Esther Mergerson - 2nd Place on Notebook and Research for the “Stuffy Gadget” (A stuffed animal/Phone combination)
  • Angie Morales and McKenzi Jowers - 2nd place for Prototype Performance for “E.G.J.” (A hoodie, earmuff, glove combination)
  • Kristen Orsak, Jack Callen Watlington, and Aidan Hagler - 2nd place for Potential Benefit to Society for “Auto-Water” (An automatic watering system using collected rain water)
  • Celeste Gibson and Makayla Mayo - 2nd place for Innovative Design for “Puddle Catchers” (A diaper with extra padding and built in baby powder)
  • Annah Kate Morris and Keelan Williams - 2nd place for Effective Display for “Noodle ‘n’ Lazy (A pool noodle chair and attached cooler)
  • Enrique Leon and Alan Tello - 3rd place for Potential Benefit to Society for “DuoBrush” (A double sided toothbrush)
  • Tatum Mettauer and Caroline Scull - 3rd place for Innovative Design for “Magni-Pins” (A Push Pin/Magnet Combination)

Students will be hosting a showcase where all of the students will be presenting their products to the public on April 28th from 5:30-7:30 in the High School Cafeteria. GT Sponsor is Jennifer Ferguson.
