Center Roughriders Head to Football Playoffs

The Center Roughriders lost a tough District 9 4A game on the road, to the Jasper Bulldogs, by a 51-20 score last Friday. Jasper will head to the bi-district playoffs as the conference champs while Center goes in as the number 2 seed. They finished the regular season 6-4 and were 3-1 in conference action.

Center will next face Hampshire-Fannett the number 4 seed from District 11 4A. H-FHS is 6-3, they were 2-2 in conference action. Kickoff between Center and Hampshire-Fannett will be at 7:30 p.m. at Woodville High School on Friday, November 15, 2019.

Shepherd and Huntington High Schools went into the playoffs as District 9’s third and fourth seeded playoff teams.

Friday saw the ‘Riders struggle with the ‘Dawgs but Center sophomore quarterback Jake Hanson completed 9 of 22 passing attempts for 119 yards and a touchdown. He also rushed for a score to help the Roughriders cause. He had 121 completions during the regular season for 2280 yards and 24 touchdowns. His quarterback rating is 108.9.

Junior Jake Liker led CHS with 10 tackles for the night and 1 caused fumble. He led the ‘Riders this season with 121 tackles. Teammate senior Zacc Smith added nine tackles and one tackle-for-a-loss to the CHS tally.

Junior Keomadre “Red” Horace led Center rushing Friday with a 19 carry 176-yard, 1 touchdown performance. Horace leads the ‘Riders season carry stats with 164 carries for 2032 yards and 25 touchdowns.

Senior JaKerrion Watson had one touchdown reception on Friday and had 8 catches for 112 yards on the night. He led CHS for the season with 45 catches for 978 yards and 11 touchdowns.

Head Coach Scott Ponder and his staff will do their best to prepare and improve on the team’s 6-5 overall performance from a year ago under Coach Barry Bowman.
