Center Roughriders Gymnasium on Friday, January 3, 2025 –
The Center Roughriders varsity basketball team took a 71-56 home win on Friday over the Class 5A Jacksonville Indians. Center trailed Jacksonville early and were behind 12-9 midway through the first period and, 22-13 going into the second period. CHS pulled to within three points at 27-24 midway through the second quarter and the ‘Riders gained a narrow 32-30 lead by the midway point.
The lead changed back and forth early in the second half and CHS led 42-39 midway through the third stanza. CHS held a 49-45 advantage going into the fourth frame. Center extended their lead throughout the final quarter. They led 61-52 halfway through the final period enroute to taking the 71-56 non-district win.
Leading the Jacksonville Indians scoring was senior Amari Williams with 15 points. Sophomore Ceylan Williams had 14.
Center was led by senior guard Tim Johnson with a game high 26 points. Senior postman Ja Smith had 12 and senior forward Tiki Robinson had 10.
The Roughriders will host the Hallsville Bobcats on Tuesday, January 7, 2025. Tipoff is at 7 p.m. This will be the Roughrider’s final non-district game before they start District 17 4A conference games on January 10th against Bullard.
