CHS Alumni Committee Selects 2021 Hall of Honor Recipient

August 19, 2021 - After a large number of nominations, the CHS Alumni Association Committee has selected local attorney, John Griffin (Class of 1972) as our 2021 Hall of Honor recipient!

The Hall of Honor Award will be presented to John on Saturday, September 4th during the Annual Alumni Association Celebration (doors open at 9am, celebration is from 10am-11am at the Windham Civic Center).

John Griffin graduated from Center High School in May of 1972 with the distinction of being the Highest Ranking Boy of the class. He left to attend the University of Texas at Austin, where he graduated in 1975 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Government. He then attended law school at South Texas College of Law where he received his law degree. John then returned to Center, where he began practicing law with his father and brother until 2012, at which time he began his retirement.

Locally, John has worked tirelessly with teachers, counselors, and administrators to insure that every child in Shelby County had a chance to enter a university, college, or institution of higher learning to further their education. In fact, he was awarded a Roughrider Scholarship in his name for his work and fundraising skills. John was also instrumental, along with other individuals, in getting a scholarship endowment funded to benefit numerous students over many years.

John has served in a number of positions over the years including the MHMR Auxiliary, Shelby County Child Advocacy Board, and CISD School Board. He also served as a Youth Counselor for the United Methodist Youth Fellowship for over 22 years and was a member of various church committees. John was a member of the University of Texas President's Association and was proud to serve as Guardian Ad Litem for numerous children in the court system.

Please join us in congratulating John Griffin ('72) on becoming the 2021 CHS Hall of Honor recipient!
