Day 2 of 11th Annual Holiday Hoops Basketball Tournament Action

Friday saw local and other Texas high school basketball teams competing in second round action at Tenaha’s Holiday hoops Basketball Tournament.

The Shelbyville Dragons wasted no time getting in front of the Sabine Cardinals and they led 30-19 at the midway break. They outpaced the Cardinals 18-7 points during the third period and took a 48-26 lead into the final period. By game’s end the Dragons had took control with a 62-34 lead at the final buzzer.

The Joaquin and Shelbyville Varsity Girls teams faced off with the Shelbyville Lady Dragons taking a 17-5 lead by the end of the first period. They built a 31-14 advantage by the end of the first half of play.  The Lady Dragons outscored Joaquin 16-13 during the third stanza and they led by twenty points at 47-27 going into the fourth and final quarter. They eventually won by 29 points with a 62-33 lead.

The Timpson Bears Boys Varsity team struggled early with the Kountze Lions. The Bears got behind 9-13 midway through the first period and they trailed 13-19 going into the second period. The Bears outpaced the Lions 24-4 during the second quarter and took a 37-23 lead into the locker room at the midway intermission. THS led 65-34 at the conclusion of the third stanza and eventually won by a 77-53 margin.

Forty Texas high school basketball teams are competing in the Eleventh Annual Tenaha Holiday Hoops Basketball Tournament which started on Thursday and runs through Saturday Night, December 28, 2019.
